ROH Episode 61 Review: “Cook, Eat, Leave No Crumbs and Take Out The Trash”

Another week of ROH TV and we could see three different champions on this week's episode! Progress. Besides the increase of champions this week, many great matches were announced for this week's edition of ROH TV, so let’s see how the episode turned out!

Isiah Kassidy vs Komander:

Although I love the Kassidy singles run, I need clarification as to why Private Party as a tag team is not competing together since they are both cleared. Especially when it seems like they are trying to build both the AEW and ROH Tag Team divisions every week. Regardless, I thought this was a great opener to this week’s episode. Kassidy got the win after delivering the low blow to Komander when the referee was not looking, and I do not think we have seen the last of these two.

Winner: Isiah Kassidy

Bang Bang Gang Promo:

Jay White says that he has fulfilled his Dynasty by winning the trios titles this past weekend. White says he told us so as he and the rest of his team would be the face of AEW which they are. The Gunns say their backpack is full of gold as they keep proving week after week why they are the best tag team on TV. Austin is upset that they are never mentioned on TV as he says it is because the other trio's teams are scared of them.

The Dark Order (John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and Evil Uno) vs Action Andretti and Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin):

Now I would say that this would be a great number-one contenders match for the trios titles. However, the trio's champions have yet to be on an episode of ROH since winning those titles months ago. The crowd was into this match and they were chanting for the Dark Order and Evil Uno, so it makes me happy that they are being used in ROH a lot more often. This was a great back-and-forth match between six great athletes, and luckily the winners of this match get a shot at the newly unified championships this weekend on Collision!

Winners: Action Andretti and Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin)

Anna Jay vs Allysin Kay:

With how often they have been using Anna Jay over the last couple of weeks, I am going to predict that she will be champion by the end of 2024, whether that be in ROH or AEW I have no clue. Although this match was short Jay held her own with Kay and she was able to get the win and continue her winning streak in ROH.

Winner: Anna Jay

Emergency Minion Empowerment Minion:

Athena says that Queen Aminata and Red Velvet stole her spotlight at Battle of the Belts for no reason. Billie Starkz says that Red Velvet is acting all high and mighty because Starkz has not beaten her yet. Athena lays out the challenge for a tag team match next week on ROH TV.

Johnny TV vs Will Austin:

Our first squash of the evening, we were on such a good roll. Sigh.

Winner: Johnny TV

Brian Cage and The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona) vs Manders and BeefTank:

Wow, two in a row. Sigh.

Winners: Brian Cage and The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona)

Premier Athletes Vignette:

This week's vignette focused on Ari Davari. Sterling said that he always wanted the best training and now that he is a Varsity Athlete he is going to excel and do great things. After the vignette aired they all cut a promo. Sterling says that phase one was a success and they sent a message to the ROH locker room, but it took six men to get rid of three varsity athletes. They are getting ready for phase two and can not wait to be in control of ROH soon.

Yuka Sakazaki vs Leila Grey:

Leila Grey is on ROH TV three weeks in a row! The crowd was not as into this match compared to the others, but I thought this match was fine. It was great to see Sakazaki back on ROH and hopefully, we will see both of them on ROH TV more often.

Winner: Yuka Sakazaki

Cole Karter and Griff Garrison Promo:

Karter says that even though they keep getting all of these opportunities they keep failing. Maria Kanellis says they both could have done better in their matches, but every loss is an opportunity to learn something new. She says that everyone is jealous of them for their physical attributes but sooner than later they are going to get back the ROH Tag Team Championships.

Proving Grounds Match for the ROH Tag Team Championships: The OutRunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) vs Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett):

I do love it when we have our champions not only show up on the show but also wrestle on the show. Even though the Outrunners lost because they were trying to steal The Infantry’s finishing move again they lasted a long time in the Proving Grounds Match. Bennett cheated to win as he held the tights and Bryce Remsburg almost reversed the decision until Taven convinced him otherwise.

Winners: “And Still”  Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)

Queen Aminata and Red Velvet Promo:

Red says she is done with Athena and since Starkz wants to play in big girl business she has to be willing to put her money where her mouth is. She also says she does not roll with minions she rolls with royalty. Queen Aminata says she does not respect Athena as champion and she is more honorable than Athena ever could be. They both say they are ready for a fight and they will take out the trash in ROH.

Taya Valkyrie vs Laynie Luck:

Three squashes on ROH TV are too many squash matches.

Winner: Taya Valkyrie

The Infantry Promo:

The Infantry says that they have had targets on their backs from day one, but they have been able to persevere and prove that they are the best tag team in ROH. The Outrunners interrupt and are rocking Camo just like The Infantry. Carlie Bravo gets upset that they are stealing everything from them and Dean challenges them to a match next week. The Outrunners say no and then suggest the same thing as The Infantry keep getting annoyed.

Lance Archer and The Righteous (Vince and Dutch) vs Ren Jones, GPA, and Jon Cruz:

Sigh, now we are up to four squash matches.

Winners: Lance Archer and The Righteous (Vince and Dutch)

Abadon vs Nova:

This is sadly getting ridiculous.

Winner: Abadon

Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie Promo:

They say their new show Johnny Loves Taya has been amazing and they are so excited for award season and to win countless awards. Aaron Solo interrupts and says that they would have gotten more viewers if he had been on the show. Solo says he is the retweet king and he supported the show from day one. Solo says that before Jonny loved Taya, Johnny loved Solo. Johnny says that is not true and Solo needs to win a match before they can take him more seriously. Solo says he vows to win next week and prove that he is TV-ready.

Blake Christian vs AR Fox vs The Beast Mortos:

Great to see AR Fox back in action for the first time in several weeks! Mortos has been on ROH every week since Supercard of Honor, so I am curious if he is signed to some kind of deal since we are seeing him more often. As far as the match it was good for what it had to be. Since there was a championship match on this show, I feel like that should have main evented over this match. Mortos gets the win as we close out another week of ROH TV.

Winner: The Beast Mortos

Overall:

This episode was all over the place. There were way too many squash matches that were honestly just used to fill the show because those wrestlers are in squash matches every week. One of the good things that happened was for the first time in a while we had some build for matches that are going to take place in next week's episode. The lack of champions also is becoming a more prevalent problem because without champions most of these matches are happening for little to no reason. Hopefully, next week will be better.
