WOULD LOW TICKET SALES DOOM AEW, JACK PERRY UPDATE, LOGIC IN BOOKING AND MORE

I like heels challenging Gunther or Damage Control for their titles. Also, Becky vs Liv as two babyfaces, who didn’t turn heel, was a fun twist. I feel having occasional matches between heel vs. heel & babyface vs babyface keeps things logical (not all heels and babyfaces like each other) and fresh (different match psychology presented). For some reason, Vince never liked to present such stories, leading to ill-advised and unnecessary turns. What do you think of occasional babyface vs. babyface or heel vs heel matches? Yay or nay?

Face vs. Face and Heel vs. Heel can absolutely be a part of a booker’s arsenal as long as he/she are competent and know how to tell the right story.

Recently, I was impressed a little exchange between the Judgment Day and the New Catch Republic. NCR called out Judgment Day and JD stormed the ring (unlike the cowardly way Vince seems to books all his heels), which was refreshing. Also refreshing was NCR being smart and bailing due to a JD numbers advantage. These little logical details go a long way into audience immersion. I think part of the recent WWE surge in popularity is due in part to smarter babyfaces and less cowardly heels. Your thoughts?

I have been saying the same thing about the WWE booking for a while.  Logic makes things so much better for me.  When things don’t make logical sense, it jumps out to me and takes away from what I am watching.  I love the overall attention to detail that WWE is doing right now.  It’s not perfect but so much is so good that when they miss on something, it’s OK.

Do you have any update on Jack Perry?

I know he has worked for New Japan but other than that I honestly hadn’t heard anything else about him so I went to the Google machine.  This is what I found out. Last week Dave Meltzer “reported” that Perry had apologized to Tony Khan for his All In “Cry Me A River” comment that led to the backstage skirmish that cost the company CM Punk.  Meltzer “reported” that Perry working for New Japan was the start of an angle which would lead to his AEW return.  Perry then contacted Meltzer’s website partner Bryan Alvarez (I guess he didn’t contact Dave because he wanted an actual follow up/retraction) and denied that he has ever apologized to Khan.  He said that he refused to contact Khan first and didn’t hear from him for two months after the incident in England.  According to Alvarez, Perry said that he and Khan talked in November of 2023 about a December return but it was scrapped when Punk debuted for WWE.  Perry said that he came up with the Scapegoat gimmick on his own and that he is still under contract to AEW, but only because AEW refused his request for a release.  He said that he is still under contract to AEW but the company has no plans to bring him back.  Given Meltzer’s track record, I am inclined to take Perry at his word here.

Can AEW survive poor ticket sales with good TV deals? I’m seeing a lot of empty seats in there shows.

I don’t see any way that AEW is profitable right now, none.  Just eyeballing what they are paying out vs. what is coming in, it seems impossible to me that they could be even close to breaking even.  So yes, as long at Tony Khan is willing to fund it, they can stay around.

Brian Gerwitz claims that The Rock came up with "Final Boss". Except Meiko Satomura has been known as that for years, including time within WWE. Given that Satomura is one of the most legendary figures in women's wrestling, did no one think to mention this to either of them?

I took that to mean Rock chose to use the name.  And in the grand scheme of things, as much as I love Meiko, if The Rock wants to use that name, I have no problem with him doing so.
