Tonight's episode of SmackDown Live featured the official main roster debut of former TNA and WWE NXT champion Bobby Roode, who defeated Aiden English.
The show also featured the official return to the company for former WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin appeared in a backstage vignette with Daniel Bryan with the story being that Bryan sent Jason Jordan to Raw in exchange for Kurt Angle's help in signing his longtime friend Benjamin. Bryan announced Benjamin would team with Chad Gable, who was all for it while Benjamin seemed less than enthused. The team will debut next week.
