EXCLUSIVE: BRAUN STROWMAN DISCUSSES HIS PUSH TO WWE PPV MAIN EVENTS

By Mike Johnson on 2017-08-22 09:36:00

With the announcement that Braun Strowman will challenge WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar at the 9/24 WWE No Mercy PPV at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, a major match that fans have been speculating on will become a reality.

While it won't be the first PPV main event for the 33-year old Sherrills Ford, North Carolina native, it will be a singles match with Lesnar, one of the top PPV attractions of this generation.

It's a bout that comes after a Summerslam main event that was designed to showcase the destructive force that Strowman's character can be on camera for the company, a force that has captured the imagination of the audience to the point that WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, appearing on CBS Radio's The Taz Show last week, commented that Strowman as "the guy" that WWE should be building around.

So, does Strowman, who has been built and consistently showcased on the Raw brand since the 2016 brand split, feel the pressure that comes with being a top flight WWE performer?

"I don't take it as pressure," Braun Strowman told PWInsider.com this past Friday.  "I take it as opportunities.  We are all given opportunities to do what we do and anytime WWE hands me the ball, I put my head down and I run as hard as I can and so far, no one's been able to stop me. "

Still, the positioning as a main eventer and how quick it has come for Strowman isn't something that he has ignored.

"It's surreal still to me," admitted Strowman, a former Strongman competitor won the 2012 Arnold Amateur Strongman Championships.  "Being in videogames and all that stuff.  I grew up a small-town boy and didn't have a whole lot.  To see myself on the lights, plastered all over, my picture's on the Barclays Center.  I'm in the new WWE 2K18 videogame and I'm main eventing Summerslam and literally almost two years to the day I debuted, I'm main eventing [for WWE].  So, if that doesn't speak to my work ethic, I don't know what does."
