PAUL HEYMAN BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE (& BRINGS THE SUSHI) AT EMOTIONAL JIM ROSS EVENT FRIDAY NIGHT

By Mike Johnson on 2017-08-20 11:53:00

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross' show at the Gotham Comedy Club with Paul Heyman before a turnaway, sold out crowd was said to have been one of the most raucous and emotional events of Summerslam weekend.

After Ross came out and told a few stories, he mentioned Heyman was his special guest.  Heyman, in full New York/ECW style gusto took to the stage and from that point on, the show was said to have been a 21st century version of the type of speeches and crowd interaction Heyman would have at the old Elks Lodge in Queens, NY at ECW events there.

Heyman told all sorts of stories as he and Ross did a long Q&A and in pure Heyman fashion, he would rant and go off on people who asked what he deemed to be dumb questions.  At one point, Heyman was asked what ECW did when it came to riots and Heyman joked they incited them.  To Heyman's surprise, it turned out that Atlas Security's Ronnie Lang was at the event and when he was pointed out by others in the crowd, Lang joined Heyman and told the crowd that by ECW hiring Atlas, Heyman opened up an entire new world and fraternity for Lang and the other Atlas Security members and paid tribute to Heyman and thanked him.

Heyman also brought a surprise for everyone in attendance as he ordered 300 orders of shrimp tempura from the sushi restaurant next door to the Comedy Club and had them delivered while he and Ross were on stage.

Heyman closed the show paying tribute to Ross and his late wife Jan.  Heyman said that he normally does not do shows of this type and doesn't look back but when Jim Ross invited him to do the show, Heyman asked him why he wanted to do the show.  He said that Ross told him that working is the one thing that makes him happy now and Heyman said he was so taken with that he immediately agreed to do the show.  Heyman gave an emotional speech praising Jan Ross, to the point that Jim Ross was openly weeping on stage.  It was said to have been an incredibly moving tribute and we've heard from three readers who said they began crying during the speech.

At the end of the show, Heyman closed out the night by praising Ross and telling everyone that the spotlight and the applause should go to the WWE Hall of Famer and walked off the stage, leaving Ross to close the night.
