6/8 NXT RESULTS FROM BRIGHTON, ENGLAND

By Paul Segar on 2017-06-09 08:54:00

Before the show, Lillian Garcia came out to sing God Save The Queen in tribute to the recent atrocities in Manchester and London.

Jack Gallagher beat Trent Seven - decent opener with a mix of technical wrestling and mustache related comedy.

Billie Kay & Peyton Royce beat Aliyah & Ruby Riot - good effort from all, though pretty much a standard formula heel/babyface tag match throughout. Kay & Royce cut a promo on Brighton beforehand, leading to a lot of banter between them and the crowd during the match.

Pete Dunne beat Mark Andrews to retain the UK Championship - outstanding work-rate as you would expect from both these guys, similar to the Network match they had in Norwich the other week. Dunne is over big time!

Kassius Ohno, No Way Jose & Roderick Strong beat Sanity in 6 man tag. A really fun match, again with good wrestler/crowd interaction throughout with Strong pinning Wolfe for the finish. Post match, Jose led a celebratory dance with his teammates joining in - as well as the ref!

Post intermission, William Regal came out to a huge ovation. He said it was his first time in Brighton in 20 years, and put over the fans for their support of the brand. He mentioned that 5 years ago NXT was running shows to just 50 people in Florida, and that his role helping it get to where it is today is the most rewarding period of his whole career!

Authors of Pain beat Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbitelli to retain the NXT Tag Titles - reasonable, but was a far more competitive match than would've aired on TV. The challengers were given good support from the crowd during the hope spots.

Asuka beat Ember Moon to retain the NXT Womens Title - they really gave this match time and were rewarded for doing so with a fantastic advert for women's wrestling - arguably the best match of the night. Only downer was a similar screwjob finish to their Takeover encounter, with the ref being pushed into Ember for a cheap roll up win. I'm really looking forward to their likely rematch in Brooklyn.

In the main event, Drew McIntyre & Aleister Black beat Bobby Roode & Andrade Cien Almas - Roode in particular putting on a psychology masterclass in that for 5-10 minutes very little actually happened, yet they had the whole crowd in the palm of their hands. Once the action clicked firmly into gear it was very enjoyable with all 4 guys playing their roles nicely. McIntyre pinned Almas for the finish, and then got on the mic to close the show, putting over the NXT brand and the UK crowd saying that we'd more that lived up to expectations.

Overall, a very fun and enjoyable show. The crowd were electric all the way throughout, without being over the top. From where I was sat the Brighton Centre looked full, and whilst it's far from the biggest arena in the UK, it more than made up for that with a great atmosphere.
