ELGIN VS. SWAGGER, JUVENTUD VS. CALLIHAN & MORE: 5/25 AAW THURSDAY NIGHT SPECIAL LIVE REPORT FROM BERWYN, IL

By Jeremy Boone on 2017-05-26 11:10:00

AAW returned to the World Famous Berwyn Eagles Club last night capping off a long week of Wrestling in Chicago.

The show opened up with Conner Braxton coming out to interrupt your announce team of Tyler Volz & Phil Colvin.  Braxton started complaining how he was not advertised on the card and that he is willing to issue an open challenge to defend his undefeated streak (0-0) for his "Thursday night appearances in Berwyn".  Out came Chicago's favorite Underdog...

Conner Braxton vs. PACO

This was a fun opener that got the crowd fired up.  PACO is a local favorite and was able to get the win over Conner Braxton.  Post-match the crowd chanted "0 and 1" at Braxton as he stormed off.

Jake Crist (w/ JT Davidson) def.. Laredo Kid and Myron Reed and Joey Janella

An excellent four way scramble that saw some insane dive sequences in succession.  One of the highlights of the match was when JT Davidson, still in his suit, came out of nowhere and landed a senton to the outside to lay out Laredo Kid, Myron Reed & Joey Janella.

Trevor Lee def. Colt Cabana

This is the first time either have wrestled.  Trevor Lee who was a babyface for so long in AAW is absolutely beautiful in his new heel role that has become more established over the past several months.  Trevor rolled up Colt & used the ropes as his advantage to take the win.

"The Real Ben Affleck" Alex Daniels & Davey Vega  def Team Tremendous (Detective Dan Berry & Lt Bill Carr)  and Trey Miguel & Stephen Wolf

A fun tag. A fun tag that saw Vega & Daniels get the cheap win.  Daniels filled in for Vega's usual "Besties in the World" partner (even down to the letterman jacket) in Mat Fitchett who was absent from tonight's show.  Bill Carr was definitely impressive and we yet again saw another fun showing in Miguel & Wolf as a tag team.

Keith Lee def. Donovan Dijak

All I must say is that live, this was absolutely PHENOMENAL and on par with the Elgin/ZSJ match from the last show.  Go out of your way to see this match as it tore the house down. If the ring was to break to how hard these guys were going at it, it would not have surprised me. There was a standing ovation for both men as the ring was showered with money from admiring fans.

Michael Elgin def. FKA Jack Swagger

It was a good match, but you can clearly see that Jack Swagger came with the intention to impress and was definitely not phoning it in.  Hell, it was painful seeing some of the welts Elgin left on his chest.  Unfortunately it was absolutely impossible to follow that Lee/Dijak match.  This was a good match with the "Gatekeeper of AAW" Michael Elgin initiating Swagger into the independent circuit.  I'd definitely like to see some more of what Swagger could do.

Post-match, Marty DeRosa comes out and lets Elgin know with this win, he is now next in line for an AAW Heavyweight Championship title match.  Elgin puts over Jack Swagger letting the crowd know that he was definitely worthy of an opponent.

AAW Tag Team Championship Match: Rey Fenix & AR Fox def. Lio Rush & Shane Strickland

A high flying, entertaining match showcasing an excellent debut of Lio Rush with AAW.  There was a fun spot with repeated RKO's on Rey Fenix.

AAW Heavyweight Championship Open Challenge Match: Sami Callihan (w/ Jade Crist & JT Davidson) def. Juventud Guerrera via submission

Earlier in the month Sami called out for an open challenge for the title and specifically threw it out to a luchador so he can build his mask collection. Juvented answered and tonight we saw an impressive debut for Juvented in AAW.  Sami absolutely crushes it every time he comes home to AAW.

Post-match, as Sami Callihan begins to rip off Juventud's mask, Fenix comes out to attempt a save.  OI4K subdues Fenix and Sami is about to de-mask Fenix until Michael Elgin comes out for the save.  Elgin challenges Callihan for their return to the Chicagoland area on 6/17 at Bourbon Street for "Killers Among Us."  .
