WWE NETWORK KURT ANGLE INTERVIEW REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2017-03-27 14:02:00

As we noted earlier today, WWE added the Corey Graves interview with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, It's True It's True, today on the WWE Network.

The interview is 19 minutes in length and appears to be WWE's way of introducing Angle to viewers unfamiliar with him, since he departed the company in June 2006.  There is spotlight put on his different WWE title wins, with Angle saying each one of them mean something special, because they meant the company had faith in you.

The interview also spotlighted Angle's matches with Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and Brock Lesnar.  Angle described Michaels as "the smoothest" he had ever been in the ring with and admitted he was nervous for their Wrestlemania 21 match in Los Angeles.   He said Brock was the best wrestler of his size ever.  They used his past victories as a way to paint Angle as one of the best ever.  They also showcased some of his silly backstage bits with Edge, Christian and Steve Austin.

Angle's departure in 2006 was explained by Angle as his body breaking down and having issues with using pain pills.  He said that Vince McMahon wanted him to stay and go to rehab when Angle asked for his release but granted it to Angle.  Angle admitted he was "bitter" and knocked WWE after his departure and talked about issues with pills and drinking.  He admitted he had multiple DUIs in a short period and the moment that turned it around for him was his wife telling him that she loved him but if he couldn't stop going down the path he was on, she was going to have to leave.

Angle stated that the WWE Hall of Fame was one of two Halls he wanted to get into before his career was done, the other being the Olympic Hall of Fame.  He said he was surprised by the invitation to the Hall because he didn't feel his career was over, but was focusing on that and was extremely happy.

The interview featured brief footage of Angle meeting with Triple H and Vince McMahon at WWE HQ in Stamford, CT.  Angle said Vince was a father figure to him and Vince either likes you or he doesn't.  Angle said Vince said whatever was in the past is now in the past and they were going to move forward and use Angle in the best way possible for the company, whether that was in the ring or not.

On returning to the ring, Angle remained coy and said that he wanted to concentrate on enjoying the WWE Hall of Fame and that no matter what, he would be with WWE for years to come.

No discussion of what Angle was doing in between WWE stints.
