PROGRESS CHAPTER 46 LIVE REPORT: COMPLETE RESULTS FROM FIFTH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

By Martin Bentley on 2017-03-26 22:09:00

PROGRESS Wrestling held their 5th Anniversary show, Chapter 46: I Like To Chill Out Here And Shoot Some Dinosaurs, on March 26th at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London, five days before their debut United States show in Orlando.

1: The Origin (Nathan Cruz & Zack Gibson) defeated The Origin: Banter Edition (Dave Mastiff & El Ligero) - the original Origin gave Ligero the option to leave Mastiff and return to them, and it looked like Ligero would do so, but he ended up low blowing both Cruz and Gibson. A good match with Ligero and Mastiff doing fun comedy spots, including Mastiff trying a Poetry in Motion off Ligero's back and Ligero collapsing when not being able to support Mastiff's weight. Cruz and Gibson got the win with a double Ticket to Ride (Codebreaker) on Ligero.

2: Toni Storm defeated Dahlia Black (w/TK Cooper) in a Natural Progression Series 4 Semi Final Match - this was the second of three semi finals, with Jinny having booked her place in the final at Chapter 45 last week. Black tried to use TK Cooper to distract Storm, but Cooper's interference backfired with Storm putting him down with a dive to the outside. Storm got the win over Black with a Piledriver to join Jinny in the three-way final for the PROGRESS Women's Championship. The last semi final will be between Alex Windsor and Laura Di Matteo, likely at Chapter 47 on April 23rd. Both Storm and Black, along with Jinny, will be in Orlando both on the PROGRESS show at the WWN Live Experience and as part of WWE WrestleMania Axxess.

3: Travis Banks defeated Jack Sexsmith - the crowd were solidly behind Sexsmith, who is taking on tougher challenges in a bid to be entered into the Super Strong Style 16 Tournament in May. Banks had the better of things most of the way through the contest, but Sexsmith battled back, locking on a Crossface with Mr. Cocko (a condom-assisted Mandible Claw) applied. Banks escaped and hit Sexsmith with several big moves, one of which Sexsmith kicked out at one, before Banks finally got the win with the Slice of Heaven (leaping roundhouse kick rebounding off the turnbuckles). TK Cooper came out and looked like he would attack Sexsmith, but instead shook his hand and walked away. Sexsmith got a standing ovation after the match for his efforts. Banks will appear in Orlando.

4: Mark Haskins defeated Axel Dieter Jr. - Haskins put on an adorable entrance, as his young son Jack came out with him and shot a trainee in a big dinosaur costume with a toy gun (the title of the show was named by Jack in a scene in the PROGRESS mini-documentary). A very competitive match with the crowd split between both wrestlers, and would have been the best match on most shows. Haskins fought out of the Dieter Special, and trapped Dieter Jr. in a deeply applied Sharpshooter to get the win. Dieter Jr. kneeled down on the stage after the match and shook Haskins' hand in a show of respect. Haskins will be in Orlando, where he will face Zack Sabre Jr. on the joint EVOLVE and PROGRESS show on April 1st.

5: Jimmy Havoc defeated Will Ospreay in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match where the loser would have to leave PROGRESS Wrestling - Ospreay came out wearing a white suit and performing staged "assassinations" on four men on the stage, including "shooting" two men in the head. Various weapons used included a pinata, a mannequin's leg, a used Playstation 2, a vinyl copy of "Especially For You" by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, and even a Grandfather Clock, before they got to drawing pins and barbed wire. Havoc tried to use a barbed wire baseball bat on Ospreay, but it had no effect, as Ospreay was wearing a protective vest underneath his suit. Paul Robinson interfered on Ospreay's behalf during the match, but Havoc saw him off. Midway through the match, with both men heavily bleeding, Ospreay got frustrated and grabbed the mic stating that whoever lost the match would have to leave PROGRESS, which Havoc agreed to. After kicking out of a 630 from Ospreay, Havoc hit him with three Acid Rainmakers to get the win, forcing Ospreay to have to leave PROGRESS. Havoc will appear in Orlando both on the PROGRESS shows and as part of Axxess.

6: British Strong Style (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) defeated The Hunter Brothers (Jim Hunter & Lee Hunter) to retain the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship - Bate and Seven threw down their old PROGRESS Tag Team Shield, and re-emerged with new Tag Team Championship belts (along with Bate's WWE United Kingdom Championship belt), then dedicated the match to their friend "Trips". Some real fun double team moves in this match, with the Hunter Brothers living up to their name in hitting stereo Pedigrees on the champions. Bate and Seven would end up isolating one of the brothers, and hit the other one with a Seven Piledriver and the Tyler Driver 97 from Bate to retain the titles in a fun match. Both Bate and Seven will be in Orlando with both PROGRESS and the WWE.

7: Matt Riddle defeated WALTER to retain the PROGRESS Atlas Championship - this was the match of the night, and a worthy successor to their semi final match at Westside Xtreme Wrestling's 16 Carat Gold Tournament a couple of weeks ago. WALTER brutalised Riddle's chest with chops, with Riddle answering back with some of his own. This was the most physical match of Riddle's career, with WALTER using his weight to come down on his leg and ankle. WALTER controlled the match for long periods, with Riddle relying on adrenaline to get him through most of the contest. Riddle escaped a WALTER deep sleeperhold, and a triangle choke to eventually lock in his Bromission (twister), which WALTER instantly tapped out in. Riddle will be part of most of the shows on the WWN Live Experience, including the PROGRESS show.

8: Pete Dunne defeated Mark Andrews to retain the PROGRESS World Championship - this was on course to match their recent efforts in both the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament and on NXT, when referee Chris Roberts was bumped into and fell out of the ring. Andrews survived interference from both Trent Seven and Tyler Bate, and hit Dunne with a Cop Killa, with referee Marc Parry counting to three and awarding the title to Andrews. However, Roberts noticed that Dunne's foot was under the bottom rope, and ordered the match to be restarted. Dunne jumped Andrews on the restart, and went for The Bitter End when Andrews countered it into the Stundog Millionaire. Andrews hit the Shooting Star Press, but Dunne kicked out at 2. Dunne then retained the title after hitting The Bitter End. The ref bump, interference and false finish took the air out of the room for a lot of fans, coming at the end of a long quality card, but hopefully the reversed finish can lead to something down the road. Both Dunne and Andrews will be in Orlando with PROGRESS and the WWE.

The Orlando show will be at the Orlando Live Events Center in Fern Park this Friday (March 31st) at 12pm EST, with tickets still available at MoreThanMania.com - the show will be available live on iPPV at WWNLive.com.

PROGRESS' next show in the UK will be Chapter 47 on April 23rd at the Electric Ballroom, featuring Ringkampf (Axel Dieter Jr. & WALTER) getting a shot at the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship. Tickets go on sale to the PROGRESS Mailing List at 10pm on Monday (March 27th).
