ZACK SABRE JR. VS. TIMOTHY THATCHER, DREW GALLOWAY VS. MATT RIDDLE, ETHAN PAGE & MORE: COMPLETE EVOLVE 79 COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-02-26 07:33:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com coverage of EVOLVE 79 from Queens, NY at La Boom!  This show took place Saturday 2/25 and coverage is live to tape via the VOD replay of the show.

ACH vs. Jason Kincaid

ACH nailed several shouldblocks but seemed puzzled by Kincaid's zen-like antics.  ACH used a nice lucha libre style armdrag to send him to the floor.  ACH rode Kincaid to the mat.  He went for a rollup off the ropes but Kincaid grabbed the ropes.  Kincaid went for an inverted atomic drop but ACH blocked it, only to be nailed with a kick to the head.  Kincaid teased a dive but ACH moved so Kincaid held onto the ropes.  ACH rebounded off the turnbuckles and nailed a dropkick, sending Kincaid to the floor, then nailed a running kick to the face as he charged ocross the apron.

ACH worked him over with chops to the chest and tossed Kincaid into the ring.  ACH was caught with a clothesline and snapped with a rolling neckbreaker for a two count.   Kincaid nailed a very unorthodox double stomp, flipping over the ropes and landing on ACH, who was laying outside on the apron.  There were dueling chants for each.  Kincaid tried to whip ACH into the ropes but ACH held on.   Kincaid missed a clothesline but ACH ducked, returned to hit feet and drilled hm with a stomp across the back.  ACH went for another running kick but was cut off.  Kincaid dove off the stage into the ring with a dropkick for a two count.  Kincaid went to the top and ascended to the top but missed a move off the ropes.

ACH sent him up and over but Kincaid landd on the buckles but Kincaid caught himself and came off the top.  ACH caught him and drilled him with a pair of lariats and scored the pin.

Your winner, ACH!

Good athletic bout where they did everything they humanely could.   Kincaid's unique character really makes him stand out here since most of the roster is based around wrestlers, not characters.

They announced ACH would challenge the EVOLVE champ on 3/30 in Orlando, Florida over Wrestlemania weekend.

Anthony Henry vs. Austin Theory vs. Chris Dickinson vs. FIP champ & EVOLVE Tag Team champion Fred Yehi

Henry, who looked great last week on the PWX iPPV on www.highspotswrestlingnetwork.com against Jake Manning started out with Fred Yehi.  A woman name Priscilla Henry came out scouting but apparently had no idea where the hard cam was as she had her back to the camera pretty much the entire time.  This was all fast paced action from the onset of the bell.

Dickinson drilled Theory with a lot of kicks to the chest but was nailed with a chokeslam.  Theory was beaten down by Yehi and Dicksinson.  Dickinson nailed a powerbomb as Yehi snapped him down with a neckbreaker at the same time.  Yehi went for the pin but Dicksinson pulled him off and wasn't happy even though they are both in Catchpoint;.  That allowed Henry to nail a missile dropkick and nail them both with kicks to the chest.  Henry nailed a tornado DDT for a two count on Dicksinson.

Theory drilled Henry from behind with a shot to the back.   Henry nailed him with a TKO.  He went for a dive but Yehi grabbed him and nailed a German suplex.  Henry came back with a snap German suplex.  Yehi avoided him and stomped the leg several times, then nailed a dropkic on Theory.  Yehi nailed a German suplex.  He and Dickinson faced off.  The crowd chanted for Yehi.  Yehi's facial expressions as they faced off were tremendous.  They shook hands and indeed faced off.  Yehi ducked a clothesline and they went back and forth with pinfall reversals before facing off.   Henry and Theory returned to the fray.

Dickinson powerbombed Theory and then did it again and again;.  Ouch.   He kicked off Theory and nailed a sit down Michinoku Driver for a two count but Theory drilled him with a kick to break up the pinfall.  Dicksinson and Theory were out on the apron when Yehi dropkicked them off the apron.  Yehi and Henry had some really good back and forth wrestling.    Henry is going to be a name making waves this year.

Yehi caught Henry and trapped him in a Kofi Clutch but Dicksinson grabbed Theory and nailed him with a Border Toss, sending him over Yehi and Henry to the other side of the ring.  Dickinson pinned Theory, technically stealing the win from his Catchpoint teammate Yehi.

Your winner, Chris Dickinson!

All action.

The crowd chanted "Please come back" at Henry and Theory.

Jeff Cobb vs. Jaka

The story here was Jaka was trying to get some revenge after Cobb and Matt Riddle came to blows at the end of EVOLVE 78 the night before in Maryland.

Jaka and Cobb nailed some hard hitting shots back and forth early with Cobb (aka Matanza Cuerto on Lucha Underground) getting the better of the exchange.  Jaka came back with chops and nailed a Samoan Drop for a two count.  Cobb came back with elbows and chopped him in the corner.  Jaka was placed on the top rope, where Cobb attempted a superplex and held him aloft for a long time before dropping him down.  That was pretty damn cool.

Jaka regained control and drilled Cobb with chops and punches.  Cobb reversed a whip into the corner and went to the apron but was kicked off to the floor.  Jaka nailed a tope suicida.  Jaka went for a pescado but was caught.  Jaka and Cobb exchanged punches on the floor.  Cobb took Jaka down with a big forearm.  They returned to the ring, where they nailed each other with some stiff shots.  Cobb caught Jaka in a pop up gutwrench into a side salto suplex.  That was insane.  Jaka kept fighting back with strikes but was caught with The Tour of the Islands for the pin.

Your winner, Jeff Cobb!

Cobb is absolutely amazing and bring a type of realistic physicality that is all the more rare in pro wrestling these days.  Jaka stepped up a notch by taking the fight to him and had a good showing as well.  Very good stuff here.

Keith Lee vs. Tracy Williams

Lee used his power to beat down Williams, chopping him in the corner and choking him against the ropes.   Williams fired back.  Lee drilled him with a knee to take Williams down.  Lee powered him up to the top but missed a shot and Williams snapped him into an armbar, hanging off the ropes.  Williams returned to the ring but was caught and ejected with an overhead belly to belly suplex.  Lee locked Williams in a chinlock and unlike a lot of independent talents, had the presence of mind to play to the camera and making mugging faces.

Williams tried to fight back but only pissed Lee off, getting beaten with a series of body shots.  Lee worked over Williams in the corner and nailed a running Avalanche in to it, then chopped him across the chest with both hands.  Williams crumpled down in the corner.   Lee sent him into the buckles and charged but missed with a splash.  Williams came to life and fired away with right hands but was caught with a powerbomb that bounced Williams back into the air.

Lee placed Williams on the top rope and set him up for a superplex.  Williams fought back and was able to thwart those plans, sending Lee back down into the ring.  Williams nailed a hell of a missile dropkick.  He followed up with kicks and a pair of lariats that took Lee down for a two count.  Lee tried to grab Williams and lift him for a move but Williams slid behind him.  Lee was able to grab a side headlock and stop him dead in his tracks but Williams slipped out and continued to fire away with strikes until being caught with a powerbomb for a close near fall.

Lee went to the top to prepare for a moonsault but Williams slipped underneath for an Olympic Slam off the ropes for a two count.  Lee and Williams drilled each other wish punches and forearms.  There were a lot of big bombs here.  Williams avoided an over the shoulder backbreaker.  Lee missed a clothesline and was locked in an armbar.  Lee blocked it and elevated Williams onto his shoulders, then hit his finisher, Ground Zero for the pin.

Your winner, Keith Lee!

A hell of a match with Lee being the more powerful beast but Williams fighting his way to near victory.  This was a great way to spotlight Lee (who I can't wait to see face Jeff Cobb) while raising Williams' profile up by virtue of his hard work and fighting spirit.
