JIMMY HAVOC VS. PETE DUNNE, MARK ANDREWS, MARTY SCURLL & MORE: 1/29 PROGRESS WRESTLING REPORT

By Martin Bentley on 2017-01-29 18:46:00

PROGRESS Wrestling held "Chapter 43: Tropic Thunderbast**d" on January 29th at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London, the first show in London in 2017.

1: The London Riots (James Davis & Rob Lynch) defeated The Kings of the North (Bonesaw & Damien Corvin) - the Kings are the current Over The Top Wrestling Tag Team Champions, and are from Belfast, Northern Ireland. A funny moment came when Rob Lynch and Bonesaw challenged each other to a old fashioned duel, which was broken up quickly. The Riots got the win with the GBH (a slingshot into a Spear) on Corvin in a hard hitting match.

2: Laura Di Matteo defeated Chakara in the first round of the Natural Progression Series to determine the first PROGRESS Women's Champion - Chakara had a good showing in her first main chapter appearance, showing good aggression against Di Matteo. Chakara hit a big DDT, but took too long to make the cover, and Di Matteo trapped her in a submission hold to get the win.

3: Jurn Simmons defeated Roy Johnson - Simmons is a former Westside Xtreme Wrestling Unified World Wrestling Champion from the Netherlands, and Johnson took part in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. There was a great split atmosphere between the two in a good contest, won by Simmons with a Piledriver.

4: South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks) (w/Dahlia Black) defeated Ringkampf (Axel Dieter Jr. & WALTER) - a tremendous match, one of PROGRESS' best ever tag team matches. Ringkampf became the defacto babyfaces, and it was all action with heavy chops and big suplexes, followed by some big dives and WALTER throwing Banks onto Cooper outside the ring. WALTER kicked Dahlia Black in the face and off the apron, but the SPPT isolated him, and Banks pulled Dieter Jr.'s legs and held them down for Cooper to pin him.

5: Mark Andrews won the Thunderbas***d Match, defeating Marty Scurll, Trent Seven, Jack Sexsmith, Sebastian, Zack Gibson, Nathan Cruz and Dave Mastiff, to earn a future shot at the PROGRESS World Championship - Andrews and Scurll started the match. Sebastian entered 5th, but was immediately eliminated by Sexsmith, leading to Pastor William Eaver finally rebelling against Sebastian's control, punching him.

Dave Mastiff turned on his former Origin partners Nathan Cruz and Zack Gibson, embracing his status as the "King of Banter", but Cruz and Gibson combined to eliminate him. The match came down to Andrews and Gibson, the latter working on Andrews' arm to set up the Shankly Gates submission hold. Andrews fought through Gibson's offence to hit the Stundog Millionaire and a Shooting Star Press to become the fourth Thunderbas***d winner.

6: Jimmy Havoc defeated Pete Dunne via disqualification in a match for Dunne's PROGRESS World Championship - the match started with Havoc thwarting interference by Trent Seven, then Havoc and Dunne took turns throwing each other into ringside chairs. Havoc hit Dunne with the Acid Rainmaker, only for Seven to pull the referee out of the ring. Havoc hit another one, and Seven ran in for the disqualification.

Dunne and Seven beat on Havoc, when Mark Haskins and "Flash" Morgan Webster returned to make the save. Haskins declared that he and Webster are cleared to return to action, that Dunne is holding the title that Haskins never lost, and they are willing to join Havoc in waging war with British Strong Style.

The next show is "Chapter 44: Old Man Yells At Cloud" on February 26th at the Electric Ballroom.
