GEORGIA DOME SHUTTING DOWN, TONY SCHIAVONE BOBBLEHEAD AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-01-23 17:52:00

With the Atlanta Falcons' victory sending them to the Super Bowl yesterday, The Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA officially hosted one of its final events.  The final events there will be Monster Jam events on 3/4 and 3/5.  The stadium hosted what many feel was the last great moment in World Championship Wrestling history, the July 1998 WCW World title victory of Bill Goldberg as he defeated Hulk Hogan, drawing over 41,000, which was the all-time WCW attendance record.  Six months later, in January 1999, it also hosted the Hogan vs. Kevin Nash "one finger" bout that is oft-remembered as the beginning of the end of WCW.  Wrestlemania 27, headlined by The Rock returning to the company as the host of the show and Miz vs. John Cena for the WWE title, was also held in the venue.  The Dome is being replaced by a new stadium, The Mercedes-Benz Stadium, located next door to the current location, a $1.5 billion venue that will undoubtedly host a Wrestlemania one day.

Speaking of Atlanta and WCW, The Gwinnett Braves in Georgia announced that one of their promotions this season will be for a free Tony Schiavone bobblehead, featuring the former WCW turned baseball announcer holding his pet Chihuahua to help celebrate National Dog Day on 8/26.

Dennis Rodman has been added to the 3/4 Big Event convention in Queens, NY.
