1/21 NEW JAPAN FANTASTICAMANIA IN TOKYO, JAPAN LOVE REPORT

By Matthew Macklin on 2017-01-21 14:52:00

Fantasticamania, January 21, Korakuen Hall:

Ephesto, Raziel, Jado & Gedo defeated Blue Panther, Tiger Mask IV, Jushin Thunder Liger & Henare.  Mostly comedy here. Tiger Mask got carried away hip tossing everyone, including his own partners and the referee. This led to team Gedo all chopping each other and Gedo threatening to chop a fan. The match was pretty basic stuff. Ephesto pinned Panther with a cradle.

Stuka Jr defeated OKUMURA.  This was a fun match with both guys working hard. Stuka hit some big dives. He takes to the air well for a bigger man. He hit a suicide dive, an Asai moonsault and a hurricanrana on the floor. OKUMURA's wife got involved, which has become an annual Fantasticamania tradition. She took a suplex onto her husband and a splash from Stuka. Stuka then splashed both of them together before making the pin.

Barbaro Cavernario, Kazuchika Okada & Will Ospreay defeated Soberano Jr, KUSHIDA & Ryusuke Taguchi.  This was great stuff. It was a surprise to see Cavernario wrestle after his injury yesterday.  The opening sequence here between Ospreay and Soberano was absolutely mind blowing.  Ospreay had an excellent showing. He got to meet KUSHIDA again and rekindle their magic from last year. Okada got involved in comedy spots with Taguchi & Cavernario, which was really funny to see. Soberano has been a standout on this tour so far, and looked great again. He was made to submit by Cavernario and La Cavernaria.

SANADA, Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi defeated David Finlay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Juice Robinson, Titan & Dragon Lee.  This was a very good ten man tag with the focus being on Hiromu vs Lee. Lee started the match with a big dive to the outside.  Titan & BUSHI had a fun exchange.  This is definitely worth checking out. There was too much going on to recap. Finlay showed lots of fire. A ref distraction from BUSHI allowed EVIL to hit Finlay with a chair. SANADA then made him submit to Skull End.

Ultimo Guerrero & Euforia defeated Mistico & Volador Jr.  This was a full on Lucha match. Lots and lots of moves with contrived set ups.  Guerrero & Euforia used chairs to attack at the beginning of the match. This was very hard to keep up with as the match went on, but if you like Lucha, you'll enjoy the spectacle. The finish saw Euforia catch Mistico and throw him into a table. Guerrero pinned Volador after a reverse superplex.

Rush defeated Atlantis.  After yesterday's attack led by Rush, this one had some heat to it.  Rush jumped Atlantis before the bell. Later in the match Rush tossed a chair at Atlantis, splitting him opened. The bleeding got worse as the match went on to the point where he was bleeding throw his mask. The match turned into a heated war because of this.  Atlantis gave Rush a receipt when he blasted him with an opened chair. The finish saw BUSHI distract the ref as Naito ran in and low blowed Atlantis. Rush then hit a double underhook piledriver to score the win. After the match the rest of LIJ joined in a celebration as the continued to beat down Atlantis.

CMLL World Heavyweight Championship: Maximo Sexy defeated Hechicero.  This was a good main event. Maximo is a guy that does not wrestle the way you'd expect him to. He's short, has some weight on, but flies around and moves with ease. Hechicero is a bigger guy, and is very hard hitting, but he can also fly around. Plenty of fun stuff in this. Maximo hit some crazy looking dives. In the end Maximo won after a hurricanrana from the middle rope.
