“Chase For The Gold Tournament”

January 13, 2017

Woburn, Massachusetts

Chaotic is a really fun local promotion where some great talent has been produced, and where untapped potential starts to become fulfilled.  After a successful mid-week show in Nashua, NH two days ago, they return to their stomping grounds in Woburn for another big show.

A tournament to determine the number one contender to Chase Del Monte’s Heavyweight Championship begins tonight with opening round matches, as well as some other special attractions, which includes a huge main event featuring a Best 2 out of 3 Falls match with Chaotic Tag Team Champions The American Destroyers (Donovan Dijak & Mikey Webb) defending against the former champions The Mill City Hooligans (Matt & Bryan Logan).

MATCH ONE: Opening Round Match – “All Good” Anthony Greene v. “The Mind Eraser” Mike Graca

If you mixed Delirious with Abyss and The Missing Link, then you have an idea of what Graca’s character is all about.  Greene has improved greatly over the last year and is beginning to build a reputation in New England.

This one didn’t seem to click from the get go.  It’s unfortunate because the crowd got behind Greene because he’s a popular guy in the promotion, but this one didn’t give the audience much to get behind as it just seemed like a series of moves strung together.  Plus, Graca’s offense and character are a bit too cartoonish to take seriously as a heel to put Greene in peril for the audience to rally around.

Greene finished the match with a springboard cutter from the top rope.

WINNER: “All Good” Anthony Greene

MATCH TWO: Opening Round Match – Adam Booker v. Ace Romero

Romero has a distinct size advantage.  Distinct. Weighing in at well over 300 pounds, Romero resembles a young Typhoon.  Booker, meanwhile, is a grizzled veteran in New England and while he may not be a physical specimen, he knows how to play his role really well and get the most out of what he has.

Despite his size, Ace somehow pulled off a suicide dive to the floor that shook the building.  After that, Booker hit a bodyslam on the floor that, well, wasn’t exactly executed too well.  With the mat that wasn’t taped down to the floor, that was almost a disaster.  Booker hit his head against the ring steps and cut himself open.  Luckily the commission wasn’t here to shut them down.

Romero went for a top rope suplex, but was pushed to the mat.  Booker followed it with a top rope elbow drop for the victory.

WINNER: Adam Booker

“The Thriller” Christian Casanova came to the ring with his manager Triplicious (doing a Latin Kings/Godfather gimmick) and Miss Belmont.  Casanova recently turned heel.  He cut a promo saying they call themselves Killanova Incorporated.  He then talked about his former friend/partner Elia Markopolous, saying he was dead weight during their entire partnership.

This brought out General Manager Johnny Vegas.  Vegas called him a punk and said he helped bring him into the business and he can take him out.  They went back and forth before they cut to a video clip on Markopolous from Orlando.  He cut a promo saying he would be there if it weren’t for his doctors not clearing him.  He then said he would be back for the Chase For The Gold tournament and to get his revenge.

Vegas then said Casanova has a match tonight and that it’s right now.

MATCH THREE: Christian Casanova & Tripilicious (w/ Miss Belmont) v. Da Hoodz (Kris Pyro & Davey Cash)

After interference from Belmont, Killanova Inc. cut the ring off on Pyro and began the build for the comeback.  The crowd rallied around Da Hoodz for it and Cash showed good fire in his offense.

Hoodz hit a double superkick on Tripilicious that sent him to the floor.  While the attention was on him, Casanova took out a chain, wrapped it around his fist and dropped Pyro with a punch for the pin.  Short but effective to start Killanova’s heel run.

WINNERS: Christian Casanova & Tripilicious

MATCH FOUR: Opening Round Match – Brandon Locke (w/ Scotty Slade) v. Demon Ortiz

Ortiz is returning to Chaotic after seven years.  In a callback to the opening match, Ortiz is a mix of Delirious, The Missing Link and The Great Muta.  It’s a very interesting look and entrance.

They traded a lot of stiff forearms early until Ortiz got the advantage.  He was dominating on offense until he went for a handspring into the ropes ala Tajiri or Will Ospreay and Slade grabbed his hands from outside the ring while the ref was checking on Locke.  This let Locke gain the advantage and go to work on Ortiz.

They went back and forth from there and the match dragged.  Ortiz had a standing dragon sleeper but Slade grabbed his leg.  Ortiz brought him in the ring and took him out, then got the Dragon Sleeper on Locke to the ground, hooked it in and choked him out.

WINNER: Demon Ortiz

Chase Del Monte & The Mill City Hooligans came to the ring and cut a promo.  Del Monte had a neck brace on and said he’s injured from an American Destroyer at the show on Wednesday.  Matt Logan was in an boot on his right foot and crutches because he was on vacation in Aruba and was bit by an iguana so he can’t compete.

This brought out Johnny Vegas, who questioned the legitimacy of Matt’s injury.  Matt brought out a doctor’s note, but Vegas asked when did Wal-Mart get doctors?  Because of Matt’s injury, he announced The American Destroyers will defend their titles against Bryan Logan & Chase Del Monte instead.

MATCH FIVE: Opening Round Match – Travis “Flip” Gordon v. JT Dunn

Gordon is the New England Champion, but the title isn’t on the line.

Really good action in the early going, including a moonsault from the second rope on the apron to the floor by Flip on Dunn.  Gordon went for a hurricanrana on the floor, but Dunn caught him and powerbombed him on the apron to start the heat.

Dunn with some really good, heavy offense to really establish himself as the heel in the match.  It was nice that he didn’t need to cheat or be underhanded to do it, either.  Gordon’s selling was really good.  It led to him making a great comeback with decent fire.

Things went back and forth from that point with some great exchanges and some nearfalls.  This included one following a Death By Elbow that got the crowd really pumped up.  The finish saw Flip sunset flip from the apron into the ring, but Dunn reversed it and grabbed the ropes for the three count.  Easily the best match on the show so far.

WINNER: JT Dunn

INTERMISSION

MATCH SIX: Opening Round Match – Cam Zagami v. Brick Mastone

Zagami jumped Mastone with a suicide dive and followed up with another.  Hot start to the match.  Zagami worked Mastone over from there and was more aggressive than he normally is on offense.  Mastone made a comeback but was quickly cut off again and he went back to putting the heat on Brick.

Zagami went to the top and was going to moonsault to the floor, but Brick cut him off and hit a brutal looking powerbomb on the apron.  He brought it back in the ring and hit a spinning powerbomb for the victory.

WINNER: Brick Mastone

MAIN EVENT: Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team Championship – Best 2 out of 3 Falls - The American Destroyers (Donovan Dijak & Mikey Webb) v. Bryan Logan & Chase Del Monte (w/ Matt Logan)

It seemed like Del Monte and Logan couldn’t catch a break early on as they kept being unable to get any offense going, much to the comic delight of the crowd.  That changed when Logan whipped Webb into the ropes and Del Monte kneed him in the back from the apron.  That let the Hooligans get the heat on the smaller Webb and allow him to sell.

After the long sell, he got the hot tag to Dijak who did a spinning boot to Logan on the apron, followed by the American Destroyer (sunset flip by Dijak into a Canadian Destroyer by Webb) for the pinfall. 1-0.

In between falls, Matt threw powder in Dijak’s eyes, and Webb got hit by a crutch which allowed Logan to score the pin.  1-1.

A few nearfalls by the Hooligans but they couldn’t finish it.  Webb did some more selling then got another hot tag to Dijak, who was VERY fired up on the apron.  Dijak with an insane springboard moonsault to the floor on everyone.  Dijak was going for a Feast Your Eyes on Logan when Del Monte tied up the ref.  That allowed Logan to hit a low blow.  They followed it with a spike piledriver for the victory and new champions.

WINNERS: Bryan Logan & Chase Del Monte

Thanks for reading the coverage!  This was a decent show that really picked up at the end with Gordon-Dunn and the main event.  Chaotic is always a great, fun and less expensive alternative to other shows in the area.  I suggest giving them a try, especially if you have young kids.  They also do a good job with longer term booking, which isn’t always the case on the indies.
