After three events this month, Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore has completed its 2016 calendar. While there is talk of running before then, the next announced date will be 4/22/17 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Based on Matt and Jeff Hardy laying out Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman, it appears that card will feature some sort of tag team grudge match.
It was a tale of two cities this weekend. After selling out Philadelphia with well over 1,000 fans, the HOH debut in Baltimore drew 300 or so fans, which was entirely advance sales. There was literally no walk-up due to the winter storm that hit overnight on 12/16 in the area and an 80 car pile-up caused by icy conditions just five miles from the venue in Joppa, MD. So, the same storm that was a huge headline on CNN ended up wiping out the ticket sales for the show.
As noted, James Ellsworth pulled off the show. Dreamer was scheduled to team with him against The Squad (not called Spirit Squad due to WWE ownership of that name, obviously) but instead brought out mystery partner Nikolai Volkoff, who was then replaced by mystery partner The Brooklyn Brawler and finally The Sandman. The match was all shenanigans. Other notes and results from Baltimore: Jessicka Havoc defeated Taya in a bout that was said to be better than their match the night before in Philly. Eddie Kingston pinned Lance Anoa'i. In what was described as a silly six man, Matt Striker & Conor Braxton & Kikutaro defeated Vik Dalishus (who has dropped a ton of weight) & Benjamin Boone & Hale Collins. Moose defeated Brian Cage in what was described to me as being much better than anyone would have expected. Alex Reynolds defeated Sonjay Dutt, Team Tremendous' Dan Barry and Brandon Scott (MCW regular) in an OK match.
Alex Reynolds is obviously about to get a push on HOH after the great promo he cut on Tony Nese, laying him out in Nese's final appearance before heading off full-time to the WWE Cruiserweight division.
Sandman spent a lot of time backstage helping out younger talents over the weekend, giving advice and suggestions.
Jeff Jones was backstage in Philly and Baltimore.
Blue Meanie was visiting at the Philadelphia show. He is still pretty much unable to wrestle after badly breaking his hand in a fall last year after slipping on ice. Homicide and Bull James were also in Philadelphia. James came specifically to see Nese's farewell. Homicide lives in the area and wanted visit with the locker room before Christmas.
The 4/22 convention prior to the HOH show will feature Ricky Steamboat, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair and Scott Hall. If Flair and Steamboat are signing and doing photos together, that will be the first time that has ever been done.
