10/30 PROGRESS 38 LIVE REPORT FROM CAMDEN, UK & MORE

By Ian Perry on 2016-11-01 09:08:00

Before I get into the results for the latest PROGRESS show, here is a quick rundown of the results from the Manchester show from 16th October.

PROGRESS Wrestling

Chapter 37: A Sudden Sense of Liberty

The Ritz, Manchester

Sunday 16th October 2016

Bubblegum defeated Chuck Mambo.

In a match with two female débuts, Scotland's Kay Lee Ray defeated the US's Kimber Lee.

In another double début, Manchester's James Drake defeated Italy's Fabian Aichner (perhaps best known from the CWC).

Next up was a four way to determine the Number One Contender to Mark Haskins' PROGRESS World Title. Shane Strickland was stranded in Europe and unable to make it to the show, so Pete Dunne's partner Trent Seven added himself to the match. Marty Scurll won over the aforementioned Dunne and Seven as well as Joe Coffey. After the match Jimmy Havoc interrupted Scurll's promo and hit him with the Acid Rainmaker.

In another Number One Contender match - this time for the Tag Team Title - the South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks w/ Dahlia Black) defeated FSU (Mark Andrews & Eddie Dennis) and The Origin (El Ligero & Dave Mastiff) in a triple threat; although Cooper accidentally punched Black.

Mikey Whiplash answered Atlas Champion Rampage Brown's Open Challenge, though Brown was victorious.

Mark Haskins retained his PROGRESS World Title against Zack Gibson.

And... now... onto last night's show...

PROGRESS Wrestling

Chapter 38: When Men Throw Men At Men

Electric Ballroom, Camden, London

Sunday 30th October 2016

After our usual introductions courtesy of Jim Smallman our opening bout; which saw a tag team return and a début.

The New Nation (Jason "Primate" Prime & Alexander Henry) vs. The Hunter Brothers (Jim & Lee Hunter)

The crowd seemed very happy to see the Hunters back, as well as to see the New Nation in a PROGRESS ring for the first time. I wasn't familiar with the Nation going on, but they looked good here. Two jacked dudes with surprising agility for their size.

The Hunters picked up the victory, but I'm sure that isn't the last we've seen of the New Nation.

Winners: The Hunter Brothers

Natural Progression Series First Round: Jinny vs. Pollyanna

This is the first match in the fourth NPS, which is the first to be an all-female tournament and will crown the very first PROGRESS Women's Champion.

Pollyanna looked like she might have taken a couple of bad knocks during the match, and she looked dazed at various points and things stopped 'clicking'. This was a brutal bout with both women taking it to one another. Pollyanna hit Jinny with some sort of crazy-looking sit-down reverse Tombstone (which my friend Will reliably informs me is a back-to-belly piledriver); and then hit a second. She attempted a third but Jinny managed to roll her up for the pinfall and to progress in the tournament.

Winner: Jinny

Paul Robinson vs. Pastor William Eaver

Paul Robinson got the win here, but the real story came after the match.

Winner: Paul Robinson

After the match, Sebastian - making his first appearance since his scary injury at the Brixton show - came out wearing a neck brace; although he threw the brace at Eaver and declared that whilst he was injured, he wasn't that injured. He was angry that Eaver had "assaulted" him before the match officially began and nearly killed him. He explained how his solicitor (lawyer) had seen the footage and it looked bad for Eaver. Sebastian decided that if Eaver doesn't become his stooge, he will take him to court and ruin his career. Eaver looked dejected but didn't say anything.

Tables Match: The South Pacific Power Trip (Travis Banks & TK Cooper w/ Dahlia Black) vs. The Shirtlifters (Jack Sexsmith & Bodyguy Roy Johnson)

This lot have been feuding for a while and this is to be their last encounter. The SPPT have always come out on top with some sort of shenanigans. The Tables stipulation was chosen via a fan vote.

It was announced that both competitors had to be put through a table for the victory. Bodyguy was the first to be through a table, giving the SPPT a 1-0 lead.

TK Cooper accidentally punched Dahlia Black - for the third show in a row - sending her through a table that had been set up at ringside. The ensuing chaos saw Travis Banks crash through the wood, levelling the score at 1-1.

Jack Sexsmith was the next to go through a table, giving the 2-1 victory to the SPPT and seeing the babyfaces losing again. Sexsmith showed a lot more fire than usual, and showed a different - more aggressive - side to himself. Bodyguy consoled Sexsmith after the match whilst the fans gave them a standing ovation.

Winners: The South Pacific Power Trip

After our intermission, the second half of the show opened with Rampage Brown's open challenge for his Atlas Division title. The Atlas Division is for any competitors who weigh over the cruiserweight limit of 205 lbs. Rampage came out first, and Jim Smallman announced his opponent...

Atlas Championship: Rampage Brown (c) vs. Bad Bones

Bad Bones is a German wrestler who looks like a smaller version of Luke Gallows from his time in the Aces and Eights. He's a muscular guy but can pull off some impressive topes for a man of his size.

Rampage got the victory to retain his title, and embraced Bad Bones after the match.

Winner: Rampage Brown

Smash Wrestling Championship Number One Contender's Match: Mark Andrews vs. Matt Cross

This was Matt Cross' second appearance for PROGRESS and carries on the relationship between PROGRESS and Canada's Smash Wrestling.

If you're familiar with either of these guys, you'll know what to expect. It was incredibly athletic with loads of high flying manoeuvres and lots of technical holds too. The timing was near perfect and this is definitely a match to go out of your way to watch.

Winner: Matt Cross

Cross earns himself a shot at the Smash Wrestling title, which is currently held by PROGRESS Champion Mark Haskins (although more on that later).

PROGRESS World Championship: Mark Haskins (c) vs. Marty Scurll vs. Jimmy Havoc

This was Haskins' second defence of his championship, and Havoc's first PROGRESS match in over a year (and first back since his horrible leg injury).

Chairs got used. Scurll's trademark umbrella got used. Lots of superkicks. Lots of everything, really. Another great match which saw Haskins retain his title.

Winner: Mark Haskins

After the match the competitors went to the back and Jim Smallman came back out to give us some details about the next show. Haskins came back out - getting a huge reaction from the crowd - laid his title in the centre of the ring and left. Jim was confused and ran after Haskins and the show was over.

Earlier today PROGRESS posted a video - which Mike Johnson has already posted - where Haskins explained that he's been suffering from a neck injury and has been advised to take time off. Haskins has been on an absolute roll as of late and this is incredibly unfortunate.

PROGRESS have since posted a second video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMdYd3uCoWw - where Jim Smallman explains the plan to crown a new champion. The next show - Chapter 39: The Graps of Wrath - on Sunday 27th November at the Electric Ballroom will see the following matches (as well as an NPS match featuring Katey Harvey and Nixon Newell) with the winners facing off in a seven-man match the same evening for the vacant championship.

Jimmy Havoc vs. Marty Scurll

Pastor William Eaver vs. Joe Coffey

Will Ospreay vs. the débuting Matt Riddle

South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks) vs. The Hunter Brothers (Jim & Lee Hunter)

PROGRESS Tag Team Championship: British Strong Style (Pete Dunne & Trent Seven) (c) vs. London Riots (Rob Lynch & James Davis)
