AAW JIM LYNAM MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT NIGHT TWO LIVE REPORT

By Jeremy Boone on 2016-10-09 17:26:00

AAW: Professional Wrestling Redefined is back with Night 2 of the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament at the place where it all started, the "World Famous" Berwyn Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL (right outside of Chicago).

The night begins as Kevin Harvey returns to AAW to act as the guest ring announcer for the night.  He welcomes out Jim Lynam's brother, Danny, who showcases the trophy and gives another touching speech in memory of the late Jim Lynam.

Mat Fitchett vs Chris Hero - Quarter Final Tournament Match

For those that have not seen Mat Fitchett live, go out of your way to watch AAW's Homecoming event on VOD, DVD or Highspots Network.  This match set the standard for how the rest of the night was going to be and clearly put everybody on notice.  Chris Hero and Mat Fitchett had an insane match where Hero worked Fitchett's head with every attempt to KO him.  Hero does a mean looking piledriver to Fitchett and scores the pin.  Post match, Hero rolls Fitchett back in the ring as he leaves as the crowd goes crazy for Fitchett.

Winner and advancing to the Semi-Finals: Chris Hero

Prince Mustafa Ali vs Rey Fenix - Quarter Final Tournament Match

Ali & Fenis work absolutely amazing together in the ring.  Their speed, agility and timing were impeccable.  During the match, Sami Callihan who has had a fued going on with Pentagon Jr, came out along with Jake Crist and JT Davidson to attack Fenix (who is Pentagon's brother.)  After Fenix eventually dived to ringside to his distractors, this allowed Mustafa Ali the chance to rest and gain the victory after Fenix's return to the ring.

Winner and advancing to the Semi-Finals: Prince Mustafa Ali

After the match, Callihan, Crist & Davidson continued to attack Fenix until Pentagon Jr. ran to the ring with a 10 foot pole dangerously swinging at the members of the Killer Cult.  As the Cult escaped through crowd, Pentagon Jr and Fenix challenged them to a "Brothers vs. Brothers" match later in the night.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs Jeff Cobb - Quarter Final Tournament Match

Jeff Cobb is a beast.  Both of the men had a very competetive wrestling match where Zack Sabre Jr worked on Cobb's right arm throughout the entire match.  Cobb showed his immense strength and would reverse out of holds by throwing ZSJ like a rag doll.  Sabre out-wrestled Cobb by reversing one of his power throws into a roll up in.

Winner and advancing to the Semi-Finals: Zack Sabre Jr.

Chuck Taylor vs ACH - Quarter Final Tournament Match

As it always is when either of these talents are in AAW, the match is just fun as hell.  ACH made a comment that he busted down a bunch of doors to get here this weekend to perform for AAW (due to his current ROH contract).  ACH scores the win and moves on.

Winner and advancing to the Semi-Finals: ACH

After the match, it was made official that Sami Callihan & Jake Crist would be facing Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr later in the evening.  The AAW matchmakers have also stated to make things interesting, they would make it a "Quadruple Jeopardy Match" in which everybody will have something on the line if they are the one to get pinned.  If Jake Crist is pinned, then he is no longer allowed to wrestle in AAW.  If Sami Callihan is pinned, then he will lose his hair.  If Rey Fenix is pinned, then he will lose his mask.  And if Pentagon Jr. is pinned, then the person who pins him will be the new AAW Heavyweight Champion.

AAW Heritage Title Triple Threat Match

Brian Cage vs Drew Gulak vs AR Fox (c)

The story of this match was both Fox and Gulak teaming up to take down the power house of Brian Cage.  An incredibly fun match where Brian Cage got to show AAW what makes him great once again on his debut weekend.  AR Fox pins Gulak for the win.

Winner and STILL the AAW Heritage Champion: AR Fox

Prince Mustafa Ali vs Chris Hero - Semi-Final Tournament Match

Chris Hero spent most of the match attacking Prince Mustafa Ali's head (who was legitimately knocked out during last September's event).  After a very competetive back and forth match, Chris Hero landed two back to back elbows to Ali and scored the pinfall victory.

Winner and advancing to the Finals:  Chris Hero

Zack Sabre Jr vs ACH - Semi-Final Tournament Match

These two worked absolutely well together.  Zack Sabre Jr once again continued to work the arms of his opponents tonight.  In another fantastic match of non-stop action, ACH taps out to a MEAN looking submission that bent him in half as ZSJ advances to the final.

Winner and advancing to the Finals:  Zack Sabre Jr.

Post match, ACH cut an interesting promo talking about how he is "married" to somebody (assuming he means ROH), but wishes he could instead be with the girl that always loved him and appreciated him (assuming he means AAW) unlike his current "wife" who does not appreciate him the way he deserves.  He says that soon he plans on getting a "divorce" with his wife.

Davey Vega comes out to the ring wearing both AAW Tag Team Championship Belts.  He explained that unfortunately he couldn't get his tag team partner and member of "Besties in the World," Mat Fitchett, to fight againtonight, so he has a new interim tag team partner to join him tonight to help defend the titles.  Davey provides Kevin Harvey with a piece of paper and asks him to read it once the music hits.  Davey runs to the back and Berwyn is blessed with the beautiful sounds of "Don't Stop Believing."  Out comes Davey Vega and "The Last Real Man" Silas Young to what was read by Kevin Harvey (and not liked one bit by Silas), the team of "The Real Last Besties."  Silas was wearing Mat Fitchett's matching tights and explained to the crowd how Davey was paying him quite a bit to help defend the titles and wear those tights.

AAW Tag Team Championship Match

Davey Vega & Silas Young vs Kongo Kong & Markus Crane (w. Dr. Louis J. Pinder)

This match just was flat out fun, but you could tell that the crowd has been getting burned out from the amazing Quarter and Semi Final matches.  After a bunch of carnage including broken chairs, Singapore canes and thumb tacks, Silas puts Markus into a submission manuever on top of the thumb tacks while using a Singapore cane as the ref calls the match once Markus Crane passes out.

Winners and still "Interim" AAW Tag Team Champions:  "The Last Real Besties" Davey Vega & Silas Young

"Quadruple Jeopardy" Match - Hair vs Career vs Mask vs AAW Heavyweight Championship

Sami Callihan & Jake Crist vs Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr.

This feud has escalated month by month since July 23's "United We Stand".  Sami Callihan comes to the ring wearing the mask he ripped of Rey Fenix at the Sep 1st "Cero Miedo" event.  This match was full of pure hated down to the ring announcements as Pentagon Jr would interfere and call Callihan and Crist obscene Spanish curses after their introductions.  As the brawl went briefly into the crowd and back to the ring, Callihan and Pentagon go back and forth with false finishes until Sami kicked Pentagon between the legs and then performed Pentagon Jr's own finishing move in disrespect.  Callihan pins Pentagon Jr. to once again regain the Mother F'n Big Belt.

NEW AAW World Heavyweight Champion - "The Death Machine" Sami Callihan

Main Event: Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament Final Match

Chris Hero vs Zack Sabre Jr.

This match was fantastic as Zack Sabre Jr. looked to destroy Chris Hero's arms.  Hero (who is the MVP of the night) performs a devastating 2nd rope piledriver for the win.

Your winner of the Inaugural Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament: Chris Hero

*Chris Hero will now get a title shot at "The Windy City Classic XII" on 11/26/16 in Chicago, IL

Chris Hero thanked everybody for coming and showed his love to everybody in AAW from the ring crew, to the audio/video techs, to the co-owners, wrestlers and the crowd.

Top to bottom, the last day of the tournament was one of the best shows AAW has produced since its inception in 2004.  It is also one that would make Jim Lynam incredibly proud.  Chris Hero, wrestling 3 times in one night, was the clear MVP tonight and each of his matches were phenomenal.  I would go out of your way to catch both Nights 1 & 2 of the Jim Lynam Memorial tournaments the moment they are released on Digital Download or DVD/Blu-Ray.  Mat Fitchett absolutely shined in the opening match and Prince Mustafa Ali has just immensely improved over the past few years.  These shows were the proper way to put the new Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament on the map and I look forward to the years to come.

AAW returns to 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, IL on 11/04/16 with "Never Say Die" featuring the AAW debut of #BROKEN Matt Hardy
