9/23 AIW JOHNNY GARGANO FAREWELL IN CLEVELAND, OHIO LIVE REPORT

By David Repicky on 2016-09-24 02:23:00

Super No Vacancy at Our Lady of Mount Carmel for Absolute Intense Wrestling's The Whole Shebang  a farewell to Johnny Gargano.

The show started with tag team action. Locals The Weird World defeated Supercop Dick Justice and Space Monkey in a fun opener. Space Monkey had bananas thrown at him in lieu of streamers.

6 pack scramble with AIW students Darren Garrini, Daniel C Rockingham, Garrison King, Brian Carson, Frankie Flynn and Britt Baker. This was pretty crazy with everybody hitting everybody with everything they had. Britt more than held her own. Finish saw Garrini, an MMA guy, tap Rockingham for the pin. Afterwards, The Duke attacked Garrini, but ended up in an armbar rather quickly for his trouble.

Tracy "Hot Sauce" Williams defeated Shigehiro Irie in what could only be called a slobberknocker. This may have been my favorite match of the night. These two killed each other and Williams was cut above the eye during the bout. They showed each other respect and Irie got a "Please come back" chant for his effort.

Four way action saw Cleveland’s Eric Ryan defeat Sonjay Dutt, Shawn Shultz and El Gringo Loco when he pinned Shultz. Another chaotic match with all sorts of stuff happening. Place is packed and the crowd is eating everything up. Tons of energy feeding the wrestlers.

Last match before intermission was dubbed "Best match ever" before it even started by a few fans. (Horn) Swoggle defeated Tracy Smothers in a spectacle that saw Smothers low blow Swoggle as soon as the bell rang and covered him for an apparent win. Supercop Justice came out and restarted the match as referee. Swoggle eventually wins after his own low blow.

After an intermission that saw Johnny and Candice sell lots more stuff and take lots more pictures, we came back with a battle of former AIW tag champs. Cheech and Colin Delaney, To Infinity and Beyond took on Nasty Russ and T-Money, The Jolleyville F*** Its in a match the was out of the ring in like 10 seconds.  The crowd was all over ref Jake Clemons for this. Delaney pinned Russ for the win. I expect to see both of these teams in the 2 night Double Dare Tournament to crown new AIW tag champs in November. Great match. T-Money’s Pounce is something to see.

AIW Intense champ Alex Daniels defeated Bad Boy Joey Janella in a good match that saw lots of interference from Gregory Iron and Ray Lyn.

Josh Prohibition defended his Absolute Championship against the Captain of the Ship, Louis Lyndon. Lyndon’s long been a personal favorite. He’s been on a roll here as he’s defeated Zack Sabre Jr and Matt Riddle in the last two months. This was a great back and forth contest that saw the champ retain in a match with a lot of near falls. Afterward, Prohibition called out Tim Donst who’s been a total d***head here lately. After he was gone, Donst ran in and attacked Lyndon. Josh returned and chased him around the whole gym before Donst finally escaped.

It’s time for the match that packed the place: The battle of the newlyweds, Johnny Gargano vs. Candice LeRae, 2 out of 3 falls. Candice came out first and then Gargano. First of many "Johnny Wrestling"  (it started here because the Browns unfortunately had Johnny Manziel for two years) and "King of Cleveland" chants. Lots of streamers when he hit the ring. He fell to the mat and came up covered in streamers. It was a cool visual. Johnny’s blown away by the reception.

Johnny won the first fall rather quickly and immediately apologized to his new wife. This brought about the first ever “Sleep on the couch” chant. Hilarious. Gargano told the crowd he didn’t want to sleep on the couch. The second fall was longer than the first and it saw Candice roll up Johnny to square the match.

As we were waiting for the third fall to begin “GLORIOUS” hit and all eyes hit the entranceway. To our dismay, out came Gregory Iron who talked a lot of trash about long time rival Gargano and his bride. Looked like Johnny was gonna kick Greg’s A** one last time when Alex Daniels came out and we have a tag team main event. Unfortunately the evening ended on a low note as Daniels pinned Gargano to pick up the win for his team.

It was after midnight and I was exhausted.  I split before what was I’m sure an emotional farewell to the home crowd. Best of luck in WWE Johnny. You deserve it, clapclap, clapclapclap. It’s been fun watching you grow into a superstar over the past 12 years.
