FORMER WWE & TNA STAR JOINS CAST OF NETFLIX'S GLOW

By Mike Johnson on 2016-09-22 13:01:00

Former WWE and TNA talent Kia Stevens, best known as Awesome Kong and Kharma, has joined the cast of Netflix's forthcoming comedy "GLOW", based on the 1980s female wrestling league The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, which aired for several years and even did a national tour based on the success of the series' syndicated TV series, according to Deadline.com.

We are told that Stevens auditioned for the series.

Alison Brie, seen on NBC's Community in the past, has been cast as the lead while Marc Maron will also be a lead.  According to Deadline, Britt Baron, Jackie Tohn,Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson, Kate Nash and Sunita Mani have also been signed to join the cast for the series.

Netflix ordered a 10 episiode first season for "GLOW" this past May.  The series, created by Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black), was inspired by the documentary on GLOW that was released in 2012 and will tell a new fictional story, set in the 80s, of an actress who uses the promotion and pro wrestling as her last-ditch attempt to become a star.

The show will be executive produced by "Orange Is the New Black" creator/executive producer Jenji Kohan and co-executive producer Tara Herrmann.   Given that "Orange" is such a monster for the streaming service, expect Netflix to put their muscle behind the comedy when it debuts.
