BALOR UPDATE, SASHA ON TITLE LOSS, WWE LEGAL LAYS SMACKDOWN ON TWITTER? ACCOUNTS, JR ON UNIVERSAL BELT BACKLASH AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-08-22 14:33:00

The Finn Balor injury is a shoulder issue.  WWE is waiting for test results to return to determine what their cause of action will be, creatively and otherwise.  There was a genuine fear last night that he may require surgery.

Sasha Banks commented on Twitter about her loss of the WWE Women's championship and being pulled from the road for injury issues, writing, "There are days that must happen to you!"

Jim Ross has a new blog looking at Summerslam and the fans rejecting the WWE Universal championship belt last night.  That was a really weird deal.  I've never before seen a situation where an audience was emotionally connected to watching two competitors fight for something but completely rejecting what they were trying to achieve.  Ross has a really good take on it and a really good read in general, as always, at www.JRsBarBQ.com.

WWE legal appears to have been all over Twitter last night, as accounts that were posting GIFs of Summerslam moments were being suspended left and right as the PPV was airing.   At the end of the day, while some fans find that material to be helpful in discovering content and promotions they want to support, WWE has always taken the tact that they need to protect themselves from copyright infringement in all areas, so I could see WWE's reasoning here if they were the lynchpins involved.  If they were not, that's a sign that Twitter itself is paying closer attention to major events and trying to prevent copyright infringement, likely sparked by how hard the Olympics had been calling upon social media outlets to delete infringing material.

The Dolph Ziggler vs. Miz commercial to promote KFC that debuted at Summerslam last night was the start of a campaign that will run on WWE Network broadcasts through the 2017 Royal Rumble.  Ziggler playing Col. Sanders was a continuation of the current KFC branding campaign where celebrities, including Jim Gaffigan, George Hamilton, and Darryl Hammond have played the Colonel in commercial spots for the restaurant franchise.

Dwayne Johnson tweeted the following:

He also announced that his "Jumanji" film will be a continuation of the story from the original Robin Williams film, not a reboot.  The film will begin shooting next month in Hawaii.  On the film being shot there, Johnson commented on Instagram, "It's such a cool thing for me to bring the production of this movie to Hawaii. The positive ripple effect it has on local businesses and families in terms of creating jobs and additional income makes me very happy. I grew up on the island thru hard times and good times, so it means a lot to this local boy. Hell, I used to steal a Snickers candy bar every day from 7-11 when I walked to the gym as my pre workout meal when I was 14yrs cause I was too broke to buy one. When I return to Hawaii, I will go back to that 7-11 (on Kapiolani Blvd) and finally buy that Snickers bar after all these years. Then I'll proceed to my psychiatric therapy session cause clearly I'm still messed up over that broke time in my life. "

Gerald Briscoe was in Rio scouting Olympic wrestlers for WWE during the Olympic games.

Pat Patterson was backstage at Summerslam as was the entire NXT roster.

Violinist Lee England Jr., who performed Shinsuke Nakamura's theme at Takeover, was also at Summerslam.

WWE released the following videos after the conclusion of Summerslam 2016 last night:
