ORTON RETURNING ON PPV & NOT LIVE SMACKDOWN, CORNETTE AS BOOKER, LANA IN RING AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-07-30 10:00:00

Just saw that Jim Cornette went on his ten millionth tirade against Vince Russo. While he is accurate about Russo why does Cornette criticize Russo's booking when Cornette himself doesn't have a good record of booking wrestling and his history of being thin skinned and clashing with everyone who disagrees with?

I suggest you go watch some Smoky Mountain Wrestling before you claim the guy wasn't a good booker, plus remember that he was part of the WCW Creative team when that company had it's best year in terms of great stories and wrestling (1989). I don't think anyone would argue that Cornette's stint in ROH was his best work but to claim he doesn't have a good booking track record is BS.  Plus, Russo was never a booker, he was a writer.  Big difference.  The Booker controls the entire flow of the company.  Russo never did that, not even in WCW.  While you may say Jim is thin skinned, I've always looked at it as Jim not suffering fools likely.  While Cornette certainly has gone on his rants, in his mind he is justified.  If you have an issue with it, why are you even listening?  I don't listen to things I don't agree with said by people I don't like - if you are doing that, you are doing it to yourself.

So the new lawsuit against WWE in regards to brain trauma/independent contractors has a man who has been deemed unable to stand trial for a murder charge due to his mental state... Thoughts?

It's actually his wife suing on his behalf because he's not able to make decisions for himself.

A few months ago, I remember reading reports on this site about Lana training to be an in-ring performer. After her appearance in the ring at Wrestlemania, she even competed in a few NXT house shows in Florida. I haven't seen or heard anything about it for a while. Is it still the plan to have her wrestle?

At some point, but currently, her character doesn't call for it.

I loved the end of battleground with Ambrose celebrating with the Smackdown locker room. Though I feel WWE missed an opportunity. Wouldn't it have made sense for someone in the group to layout Ambrose? Personally I would have loved to see Baron Corbin take out Dean and stare the rest of the locker room as he left the ring. It would have established the lone wolf as just that, and also made a new top heel for Smackdown.

That would have been an interesting twist to close out the show, but obviously was not the way WWE wanted the show to end.

Wouldn't WWE have been better served holding Randy Orton's return for the 1st live Smackdown, instead of adding it to a too long PPV?

No, because the first live Smackdown had the Draft to draw viewers and fans should have to pay to see Orton's return to the company.  The second live Smackdown got Orton's first match back, so it's not like those viewers got shafted.
