COMPLETE NEW JAPAN G1 CLIMAX DAY SIX REPORT

By Matthew Macklin on 2016-07-27 18:30:00

G1 Climax Day 6, Nagano Big Hat, July 27:

Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Manabu Nakanishi defeated David Finlay, Juice Robinson & Togi Makabe

This was a preview of Makabe vs Tenzan, which will not be pretty.  Robinson & Nakanishi did their thing. Finlay looked good against Kojima before Kojima won with a lariat. There was a small brawl between Tenzan & Makabe after the match.

Naomichi Marufuji & Hirooki Goto defeated BUSHI & SANADA

This was a very good tag match with plenty of fun action.  SANADA & Goto brawled ahead of their G1 match.  Marufuji finished off BUSHI after a good back and forth when he hit Shiranui.

KUSHIDA, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Captain New Japan, Tiger Mask IV & Jushin Thunder Liger

The theme continued of no one wanting to tag in poor Captain New Japan. This was fun for what it was.  KUSHIDA made Captain submit to the Hoverboard Lock

Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale & Tama Tonga defeated Gedo, Tomohiro Ishii & Kazuchika Okada

This turned into a very entertaining match. Fale & Ishii brawled a lot here.  We had a preview of Tonga vs Okada, with Tonga slithering his way out of a Rainmaker.  Fale was a monster here.  Yujiro pinned Gedo after a low DDT.

Block B:

Yuji Nagata defeated YOSHI-HASHI

This was great. These are the sort of matches that go unnoticed when you read a card, but always deliver.  YOSHI controlled a lot of the early part of the match.  This was Nagata at his best.  He was just on here. He was nailing YOSHI with kicks.  YOSHI got a great near fall with a Senton Bomb and locked in the Butterfly Lock, which Nagata sold so well.  YOSHI then survived a Nagata Lock and kicked out of a Brainbuster.  Nagata won with the Back Drop Hold.  Nagata goes 3-0. This was so much fun.

Katsuhiko Nakajima defeated EVIL

This was intense, physical and stiff.  Another great match. It started with Nakajima kicking the hell out of EVIL, so EVIL attacked him with a chair and took the advantage. Nakajima was on point with his kicks. Just as stiff as it gets from all angles and positions. EVIL was just as stiff, but with forearms, lariats and suplexes.  EVIL got a nice near fall when he hit Darkness Falls.  Nakajima got the win after a PK followed by a Brainbuster.  Excellent stuff by two really great young wrestlers.

Tetsuya Naito defeated Toru Yano

It goes without saying, but this was a blast.  It was short, but fun. They both tried using the turnbuckle pad as a weapon. The referee almost got hit, but did get spat at. There were low blows and roll ups from Yano. Naito won after a low blow and Destino. It was exactly what it should have been.

Kenny Omega defeated Tomoaki Honma

The first two G1 matches of the night were great, but this was even better.  Another top performance from Kenny Omega here. Honma missed Kokeshi's on the apron and the floor early on. Omega was just full of energy. There was  great sequence here Honma popped out of a dragon suplex and hit a Kokeshi on a seated Omega.  Omega hit a couple of knees and went for his finish, but Honma escaped and the match continued. Honma got big near falls off a lariat, a Brainbuster and a piledriver.  Honma missed the diving Kokeshi.  Omega hit a deadlift powerbomb, which was impressive. He hit more knees including one as Honma went for a running Kokeshi and nailed the One Winged Angel to pick up the points.

Michael Elgin defeated Katsuyori Shibata

This was yet another great match and an all out war. Elgin just keeps on proving himself as a top star in NJPW and is able to hang with just about everyone. The story here was striking and submissions vs power.  Elgin toyed with Shibata at the start. He was able to power out of everything that Shibata threw at him such as a guillotine choke.  Elgin powerbombed him into the ringpost twice. He went for an Elgin Bomb, but Shibata spun into a sleeper. Elgin wouldn't go down, so Shibata instead hit a sleeper suplex.  Elgin destroyed Shibata with several lariats before he hit a buckle bomb and Elgin Bomb to pick up his first two points. After the match Elgin said that he would win every match from here on.

The standard in the G1 is so high that even a smaller show like this delivers several must-see matches.  Every G1 match on this show is worth watching and it's available now at NJPWWorld.com.
