THE DESPERADOES, WWE NO LONGER CHANGING NAMES, TALENT INPUT ON PROMOS & MERCHANDISE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-07-02 10:00:00

So, I'm watching the new WWE Network Collection on "Colorful Characters" and there is old footage from WCW of The Desperadoes, who are looking to find Stan Hansen.  What was this all about?  Did they find Hansen?

The Desperadoes were meant to be a cowboy stable comprised of Dutch Mantel, Black Bart and Deadeye Dick.  The idea was dropped after a few vignettes aired and no, they never found Stan Hansen.

Been rewatching a lot of the CM Punk promos around his pipe-bomb promo.   I know that wasn't scripted, but what about his promo with Triple H (The Paul Levesque/Phil Brooks promo), was that unscripted to?

The Punk promo wasn't scripted but WWE was aware he was going to go out and knock the company.  The Triple H promo was scripted, at least in regard to the bullet points of what was going to be discussed.

Is it my imagination, or is Rusev losing his accent?

Certainly, he slips in and out with it, but that's not something he's trying to do.

During the CM Punk-Rock feud a few years ago, I loved when Punk had a “Knees to Faces” shirt to counter Rock’s “Boots to Asses” shirt. Did Punk come up with that, and to what extent do other talents have a say in their merch designs?

Certainly Punk had some input with his merchandise, but most of the merch designs are designed by the company and then some talents, depending on their importance to the company, get to have their say.

It looks like WWE has begun allowing indy workers to keep their names coming in (Tomaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Anderson & Gallows, etc., unlike past guys like Kevin Owens, Hideo Itami, Sami Zayn and Finn Balor. When and why did this change?

The decision to bring in Samoa Joe seems to have broken the mold in that regard.

Were the inroads WWE recently made in China in any way paved by Shane McMahon and the years he spent developing business contacts in that country before coming back to WWE this year?

No.
