DOES LESNAR FIGHTING HELP THE WWE-PUNK ISSUES?, HEYMAN AT UFC? AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-06-10 10:00:00

I saw your reply today in the questions about Brock potentially losing at UFC 200. My question to you is, in my opinion WWE wins either way, would you agree?

Brock Wins: He looks dominant coming into summerslam, having taken his opponent out, he comes back like a monster.

Brock Loses: He comes back, enraged at his loss and takes it out on people until summerslam. People saying you tapped out, or got knocked out, he snaps and F5s them.  Honestly if used right, either scenario seems to benefit WWE.
What do you think?

Unless Lesnar is seriously injured fighting, I side with you.  I don't see any way this hurts Brock.  WWE has not, as of this writing, mentioned the fight on TV.  They may not.  We will see.

What are the odds that Lesnar fighting helps bridge the gap between WWE and Punk?

I think if anything, it widened it.  If you are CM Punk and they wouldn't give you permission to walk Chael Sonnen to the Octagon years ago and you leave under extremely bad circumstances and now you are being sued by their medical doctor, only to see WWE just open the door for Brock to come do what you have been training to do, with far more fanfare, how can you not be angry about it?  That's human nature.

Obviously a union will never happen, and in smaller companies it is much more understandable that the wrestlers are considered independent contractors. But as far as WWE goes, I can't imagine how the wrestlers could still be categorized as independent contractors. What do you think has to happen for that to change, and do you think it will ever be changed?

The only way it changes is if every major star (think Undertaker, John Cena and Brock Lesnar) together all lead everyone to refuse to work until a union is recognized.  It will never happen.   Wrestlers are classified as independent contractors so they can write off a lot of expenses as business expenses - medical insurance, gym, hotels, rental cars, costuming, etc.  WWE makes them employees and it's now on WWE to pick up all those costs.  I just don't see it ever happening.  We can all make a good case as far as why it should happen, but I don't see it ever happening.

My second question is that I know NFL players pay taxes based on each state they play games in due to "earning income in that state". Is it also that way with WWE wrestlers as well since they are being paid to work in different states and therefore earning income in those states?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

Do you think Brock Lesnar will have Paul Heyman with him at UFC?

Sure, why not?  He's had Heyman with him before at UFC.
