NXT USING UNSIGNED TALENT, BROCK IN UFC, SETH THE BABYFACE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-06-09 10:00:00

Why is WWE (NXT specifically) having guys without contracts appear on their TV programming? Bobby Roode and Eric Young both made appearances and are still not signed so I was wondering what was the point or the payoff short term? As we saw with James Storm, it didn't work out with NXT and his appearance didn't seem like it accomplished anything other than a pop for that appearance.

In the case of all three talents you mentioned, Storm and Young were essentially given tryouts on television while Roode was given a cameo.  It did NXT no damage at all to have them show up - it gave the talents a chance to show what they had and to get over.  If they didn't sign - and in the case of Storm, he chose to go back to TNA, it provided a chance for WWE to have a "anything can happen  here" feel to the show.    Roode is in and I expect Young to follow shortly,

I see a lot of talk about needing NXT call ups for the eventual roster split in WWE. Do you think the right move would be to utilize the current roster better, than to bring more guys up? There are a lot of bit players on the current WWE roster that should be elevated and built, but instead will remain where they are while NXT call ups will "leap" over them. Basically, it's quality over quantity. In ECW and even TNA, nearly ever member plays a role instead of some jobbing out.

Of course using the current roster in stronger positions is a smart idea but you also need to eventually freshen things up.  Plus, unfortunately for them, a number of WWE stars have bene overexposed or killed off to the point that it takes time to rehab them.  I love Jack Swagger's work but could he be in the World title picture right now and have the audience really get behind him?  I don't know that I believe that.

Plain and simple: What do you see the risk-to-reward ratio being for WWE with Lesnar, in regards to being a draw, competing at UFC 200?

Unless Brock gets injured to the point he can't work Summerslam, there is no risk for WWE here.

The Seth Rollins promo on Raw is doing no favors for Roman Reigns. They made him look like a face with all the sympathy they gave him. Do you think they are turning him already?

I don't know whether the plan is for Rollins to be the babyface here, but certainly Rollins came off as one.  How WWE handles that will be interesting to follow over the next few weeks.

So Brock Lesnar is still with WWE and will compete at Summer Slam after his UFC match. What if he loses at UFC 200? Do you think his image will be tarnished? WWE has build him up as unstoppable and if he is defeated (or worse, is destroyed or knocked out), how can WWE treat him the same without making his opponents look even weaker by not being able to beat someone who got beat himself? Also, do you think WWE is shooting themselves in the foot because of this?

I think if Brock loses, he returns to WWE and massacres a bunch of people with an F5 to show he's still a monster and we are back off to the races.
