ONE BIG REASON WHY WWE DIDN'T SELL MORE WWE NETWORK SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR WRESTLEMANIA

By Dave Scherer on 2016-04-07 14:40:00

As mentioned earlier this week by WWE, the company had 1.45M paid WWE Network subscribers as of Monday, after WrestleMania.  They also had 370,000 people that took advantage of WWE's offer to get the show for free.  While Wall Street reacted negatively to the latter number, WWE has a bigger issue, which they could easily address, that is costing them subscribers.

In the last day, I spoke with three different people that told me that they watched WrestleMania on Sunday using someone else's account.  All three people were in a different location, on a different IP address, than that of the person that paid for the account (and one of the people told me that they were using the account of someone that signed up for a free month).

I think it's fair to say that significantly more people did the same thing, this costing WWE subscribers.

To me, the fix is easy.  WWE should set the accounts up so that there can be unlimited connections as long as they are done on the same IP address.  That way, if people want to watch the Network in different rooms, on different devices, there is no issue.  By the same token, it would prevent someone who buys an account from sharing it with multiple people.  At most, they should allow two IP addresses to be on at once.
