THE TOWER OF DOOM, CHICAGO WWE PPVS, ALI VS. INOKI AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-03-31 10:00:00

Shane McMahon is 2-0 at Mania. It is highly unlikely but do you think Shane will mention his undefeated Mania streak in the build against Taker?

It's possible they could bring it up, but I don't see the point.  I don't think his won/loss record would be a major selling point for the PPV.

Since 2012, Chicago has gotten either Extreme Rules or Payback and this year is no exception (this year's Payback). The last time that Chicago has hosted a PPV other than Extreme Rules and Payback was the 2011 Money In The Bank PPV which got rave reviews. Is there a reason for this?

No major reason beyond WWE's routing for their events, which are usually locked in a year to 18 months in advance.

Do WWE own the rights to the Antonio Inoki vs. Muhammad Ali match?

I am sure a copy of it is sitting in their archives but I don't know if the ownership would fall upon their shoulders.  The event was produced by Inoki in Japan, so I would assume the rights are held by someone involved in the promotion of the showe there.  That said, having seen the match, if you are looking to see something exciting, this isn't where you are going to find it!

I've been tracking down old World Class shows and cannot seem to find a tape of the final Parade of Champions.  Any chance WWE owns that footage?

If the footage exists, it's inside WWE's library.  I have never, ever heard of any footage of the show existing, however.

I'm watching Great American Bash 1988.  After the NWA used the Triple Cage Tower of Doom.  Where did it come from and what happened to it?

The Cage was actually used by World Class Championship Wrestling at least once before it was brought in and used at the Bash.  The storyline explanation for the Cage was that Kevin Sullivan had the plans from Singapore and had it erected.  My guess as to what happened to the cage is it was broken down into scrap and discarded.  I don't believe it was something NWA/WCW held onto it as it was never used again.
