COMPLETE COVERAGE OF NJPW NEW JAPAN CUP 2016 - DAY TWO: THE FINAL FOUR IS SET

Welcome to the PWInsiderXtra.com live coverage of New Japan Pro Wrestling New Japan Cup 2016: Day Two, live from the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

This morning’s card features...

Match #1 - Singles Match: David Finlay vs. Jay White

The match begins with Finlay and White doing some chain wrestling and nobody gets a clear edge, Finlay then drops a charging White with a drop kick. Finlay picks up White to crack him with a European uppercut before ripping away at his face, Finlay then drags White to the ground while working over his arm. Finlay picks up White and promptly slams him for the near fall, White recovers and drops a charging Finlay with a drop kick of his own. White then cracks an again charging Finlay with a back elbow to the face, White misses a charge in the corner and then he catches a charging Finlay with a boot to the face. White then hits a dazed Finlay with a running European uppercut, White hits Finlay with a missile drop kick for a two count.

Finlay recovers and hits a charging White with a diving European uppercut, Finlay then hits White with a leaping hip attack and a belly to belly suplex for a two count. White escapes the Finaly Roll and nearly gets rolled up in the exchange, White fires back at Finlay and eats a European uppercut for his efforts. Finlay attempts to hit White with a kryptonite krunch and White counters into the lion tamer to force a tap out.

Winner: Jay White

Match #2 - Tag Team Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Juice Robinson vs. Bullet Club (Cody Hall & Yujiro Takahashi)

This bout begins with Hall grabbing Tanahashi from behind and that allows Takahashi to attack him, Tanahashi fights back by nailing Takahashi with forearm strikes. Takahashi quickly recovers by pulling the hair of Tanahashi, but Tanahashi gets back up and nails Takahashi with a back elbow. Takahashi bites the hand of Tanahashi as he tags Hall into the match, Tanahashi then decides to tag Robinson into the match as well. Hall easily overpowers Robinson and tosses him across the ring and into the ropes a few times, Robinson eventually escapes the clutches of Hall and he drops him with a clothesline. Hall gets angry and he tosses Robinson out of the ring, Takahashi attacks Robinson outside the ring by throwing him into the barricade and hitting him with a chair. Robinson is thrown back into the ring and Hall power slams him for a two count, Takahashi tags back in and Robinson hits him with a headbutt.

Takahashi quickly recovers by hitting a seated Robinson with a drop kick, Robinson escapes the back suplex of Takahashi to hit him with a back suplex of his own. Tanahashi finally gets tagged in and he goes to work on the opposing team, Tanahashi slams Takahashi before catching him with a swanton bomb for a two count. Hall interferes again by grabbing Tanahashi and then Takahashi rakes his eyes, Takahashi then tags in Hall after suplexing Tanahashi. Bullet Club then connects with a double team maneuver on Tanahashi in the corner, Hall then catches Tanahashi with a springboard splash for a near fall. Hall then picks up Tanahashi to hit him with a fireman’s carry gut buster for a near fall, Hall sets up for a Razor’s Edge and Robinson interferes to block it. Robinson and Tanahashi then lay out Hall with a double flapjack, Robinson then catches Takahashi with a suicide dive to take him out. Tanahashi locks Hall in the lion tamer and a tap out follows.

Winners: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Juice Robinson

Match #3 - Ten Man Tag Team Match: Ryusuke Taguchi, Kushida, Katsuyori Shibata, Tomoaki Homna & Togi Makabe vs. Tiger Mask IV, Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Manabu Nakanishi, Yuji Nagata & Hiroshi Tenzan

The bout kicks off with Kushida and Liger doing some chain wrestling, Liger gets a pin attempt on Kushida with a roll up. The two chain wrestle again and Liger catches Kushida in the surfboard hold, Kushida escapes to tag in Taguchi as Mask IV gets the tag from Liger. The two crisscross the ring until Mask IV double stomps the behind of Taguchi, Taguichi recovers to nail Mask IV with a hip attack. Mask IV knocks Taguchi out of the ring and that gives Taguchi time to tag Homna in, Nagata gets the tag as well and Homna slaps him in the face. Nagata gets angry and he levels Homna with a series of kicks, Homna slams Nagata and misses the follow up headbutt. Nagata takes advantage to work over the arm of Homna, Nakanishi gets the tag and he teams with Nagata to hit Homna with a double shoulder tackle. Nakanishi picks up Homna and he cracks him with a few chops of his own, Homna is brought outside the ring and Liger tags in to hit him with a baseball slide drop kick.

Liger and Mask IV work over Homna with some double team maneuvers for a near fall, Tenzan tags in and he continues punishing Homna. Homna fights back and Tenzan drops him with a series of thrusts to the shoulders, Tenzan backs Homna into the corner to hit him with headbutts and a running clothesline. Tenzan eventually catches Homna with a suplex for a near fall, Homna then drops a charging Tenzan with a back elbow and falling headbutt before tagging Makabe in. Makabe instantly starts cleaning house on the opposing team, Makabe mounts Tenzan in the corner to attack him with punches. Makabe then cracks Tenzan with a clothesline for a near fall, Tenzan then hits a charging Makabe with a northern lights suplex. Nakanishi tags in and Shibata gets the tag as well, Shibata instantly attacks Nakanishi with a plethora of kicks that land all over the body. Nakanishi catches a distracted Shibata with a release German suplex, everybody on the opposing team attacks Shibata so Nakanishi can get a near fall.

This leads to everybody from both teams taking each other out with just about every move you can think of, Nakanishi locks Shibata in the torture rack, Shibata escapes and he locks Nakanishi in a rear naked choke. Homna then hits Nakanishi with a diving headbutt, Shibata follows up by nailing Nakanishi with a soccer kick to get the three count.

Winners: Ryusuke Taguchi, Kushida, Katsuyori Shibata, Tomoaki Homna & Togi Makabe

Match #4 - Tag Team Match: Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Yoshi-Hashi) vs. Los Ingobernables (Evil & Bushi)

This one begins with Los Ingobernables attacking Okada from behind,Okada shoves Evil into Bushi before suplexing Evil to gain control. Yoshi-Hashi tags in and he teams with Okada to catch Evil with some double team holds, Yoshi-Hashi then cracks Evil with a running chop. Yoshi-Hashi then drapes Evil on the top rope and he follows up with a drop kick to the spine, Bushi interferes by dragging Yoshi-Hashi out of the ring. That allows Evil to come out and toss Yoshi-Hashi through the barricade and into the crowd, Evil then wraps a chair around the head of Yoshi-Hashi before tossing him into the ring post. Yoshi-Hashi is brought back into the ring and Bushi gets the tag, Bushi slows things down by holding Yoshi-Hashi in the chin lock. Yoshi-Hashi tries escaping and Bushi chokes him with a shirt, Evil tags back in and he attacks Yoshi-Hashi with chops.

Evil then crushes Yoshi-Hashi with a senton bomb for a near fall, Evil looks for a lariat and Yoshi-Hashi counters with a running neck breaker before tagging Okada in. Okada hits the ring and he works over both members of the opposing team, Okada then hits Evil with a back elbow and a tornado DDT. Okada then hits a recovering Evil with a leaping European uppercut, Evil recovers to hit Okada with a tornado clothesline and a modified tiger driver for a two count. Bushi tags in and he catches Okada with a missile droop kick, Bushi and Evil double team Okada and it ends with Bushi hitting Okada with the code breaker. Bushi misses a charge to the corner before hitting Okada with a pair of boots to the face, Bushi then hits Okada with a DDT before going to the middle rope. Bushi misses his dive and Yoshi-Hashi comes into nail hi with a clothesline, Yoshi-Hashi then takes Evil out of the ring.

Bushi recovers to catch Okada with the inzaguri, Okada recovers quickly to hit Bushi with a lariat and diving elbow drop. Okada nails Bushi with the Rain Maker to get the three count.

Winners: Chaos

Match #5 - NJPW New Japan Cup Quarterfinals: Satoshi Kojima vs. Toru Yano

This bout kicks off with Kojima powering Yano into the ropes and Yano starts doing his mind games, Kojima gets mad and he just attacks Yano with strikes. Kojima knocks Yano out of the ring and he punishes him further, Kojima eventually tosses Yano into the barricade. Kojima argues with the referee about using a chair, the distraction allows Yano to throw him into the barricade and hit him with a chair. Yano then tosses Kojima into the barricade again before removing a turnbuckle pad, Yano brings Kojima into the ring and he throws him into the exposed turnbuckle. Kojima quickly fights back with forearm strikes before dropping Yano with a shoulder tackle, Kojima backs Yano into the corner with some strikes. Yano gets some space before accidentally running into the exposed turnbuckle, Kojima then hits Yano with a series of hard chops.

Kojima goes to the top rope and Yano rolls all the way to the other side of the ring, Kojima gets off the ropes and he catches a charging Yano with an atomic drop and DDT. Kojima then cracks Yano with some forearm strikes and a neck breaker, Kojima goes for the lariat and then some foul play with the referee happens. That allows Yano to catch Kojima with a low blow, Kojima goes for the lariat and Yano rolls him up from out of nowhere to get the three count.

Winner: Toru Yano

Match #6 - NJPW New Japan Cup Quarterfinals: Toma Tonga vs. Hirooki Goto

The match starts off with Tonga immediately drop kicking Goto as the bell sounded, Tonga then cracks Goto with a series of punches to the midsection. Tonga then decides to control Goto by holding him in a headlock, Goto breaks free and he drops Tonga with a shoulder tackle. Goto then hits Tonga with some hip tosses and a kick to the back area, Tonga briefly goes outside the ring to catch his breath. Goto eventually follows Tonga out of the ring and that allows Tonga to drop kick him, Tonga then tosses Goto into the barricade a few times. Tonga then picks up Goto and he drops him face first on the ring apron, Goto beats the tweny count to get back in the ring and Tonga makes him pay for it. Tonga backs Goto into the corner before nailing him with a diving avalanche splash, Tonga decides to slow things down by holding Goto in the chin lock.

Goto tries fighting back and Tonga changes to a sleeper hold instead, Goto eventually gets Tonga off of him and then drops him with a clothesline. Goto then waits for Tonga to get up before eating a boot to the face, Goto recovers quickly to drop Tonga with a clothesline. Tonga gets up and Goto catches him with a spin kick followed by a suplex for a near fall, Goto charges at Tonga and Tonga nails him with a spear. The two combatants stands in the middle of the ring and exchange some forearm strikes, Goto eventually drops Tonga with a modified back breaker. Goto goes for his finisher and the two go through a wild series of reversals that actually leads to Tonga catching Goto with an ace crusher, Tonga goes for his DDT and Goto escapes with a back body drop, Tonga forces the referee in front of the charging Goto. Goto gets the referee out of the way and he lands a kick on Tonga to get the surprising three count.

Winner: Hirooki Goto

After the match, Kazuchika Okada hits the ring because he wants to shake hands with Hirooki Goto, Goto shakes his head no and he leaves the ring.

Match #7 - NJPW New Japan Cup Quarterfinals: Michael Elgin vs. Bad Luck Fale

This contest begins with the wrestlers going through a test of strength and Fale wins the initial battle, Elgin then cracks Fale with chops and forearm strikes. Fale and Elgin exchange shoulder tackles with neither going down, Elgin then cracks Fale with an inzaguri. Elgin fails to land the suplex on Fale and Fale turns it into a neck breaker, Elgin rolls out of the ring and Fale follows him out there before throwing him into the barricade a few times. Elgin beats the twenty count by getting back in the ring and Fale rewards him by standing on his hurt back, Fale then rams his shoulder into the spine of Elgin. Elgin tries fighting back with forearm strikes and Fale goes back to attacking his injured back, Fale slams Elgin before just mocking him for a short time.

Elgin gets back up and he attacks Fale with a few chops, but Fale quickly stops him with a knee to the gut. Fale throws Elgin into the corner and then misses the follow up avalanche attempt, Elgin decides to try and suplex Fale again and Fale simply slams him instead, Fale then misses the splash attempt and Elgin nails him with some running clotheslines afterwards. Elgin goes for a sunset flip to counter Fale and Fale misses his giant sit counter to that, Elgin then catches Fale with a middle rope elbow drop for the two count. Elgin gets up first and he clobbers Fale with a bunch of clotheslines that causes the big man to stumble, Elgin finally connects with the suplex on Fale to get a two count. Elgin attempts to power bomb Fale and he cannot get him up, Elgin instead decides to crack Fale with a roaring elbow strike.

Elgin charges at Fale and Fale nails him with a spear, Fale then catches Elgin with the spike to the throat to get another two count. Fale then decides that it is time for him to go to the top rope, Elgin meets him up there and he wants to suplex him off the top. Fale knocks Elgin off the ropes, but Elgin quickly gets back up and power bombs Fale to get the three count.

Winner: Michael Elgin

Main Event - NJPW New Japan Cup Quarterfinals: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tetsuya Naito

The main event begins with Naito playing some mind games with Ishii, Ishii gets mad and he just applies a headlock on Naito. Ishii then hits Naito with some shoulder tackles and a follow up power slam, Ishii then stomps and headbutts a dazed Naito. Ishii starts laying some hard chops onto Naito, Naito spits at Ishii and then catches him with an atomic drop that is followed by a neck breaker. Naito starts to just slap the back of the head of Ishii, Naito then starts to attack Ishii with forearm strikes before catching him with a flat liner. Naito continues to just slow the pace down by holding Ishii in a chin lock, Naito also attacks Ishii with a few elbow strikes. Ishii gets back up and he attacks Naito with forearm strikes, but Naito quickly recovers by catching Ishii with a back breaker and a drop kick.

Naito brings Ishii to the corner and he attacks him with a plethora of strikes, Naito goes to the ring apron to set something up and Ishii lays him out with a clothesline. Ishii then brings Naito back into the ring with a suplex, Ishii then just decides to poke at the head of Naito with his boot. Ishii stands Naito up in the corner before attacking him with a plethora of strikes, Naito tries fighting back and Ishii clobbers him with a clothesline. Ishii then places Naito on the top rope and he follows him up there, Ishii connects with a delayed vertical suplex from the middle rope on Naito for a near fall. Naito finally catches Ishii with a tornado DDT to take him down for a short time, Naito follows that up by crushing Ishii with a springboard double stomp followed by a German suplex for the near fall.

Naito then places Ishii on the top turnbuckle before catching him with a top rope hurricarana for another two count, Naito tries to set up another move and Ishii drops him with his own German suplex. The two competitors reverse a bunch of holds until Ishii crushes a charging Naito with a lariat, Ishii then power bombs Naito to get another near fall. Ishii follows up with another lariat to get another two count on Naito, Ishii sets up for a suplex and Naito hits him with a pair of inzaguris to keep him down momentarily. The two competitors stand up and exchange strikes in the middle of the ring, Naito then catches Ishii with a rolling kick followed by a pump handle slam for a near fall. Naito goes for his finisher and Ishii crushes him with a headbutt that is followed by a lariat, Naito recovers by catching Ishii with a flying forearm and a German suplex for a two count.

Ishii then counters the finisher of Naito again by catching him with a reverse DDT like hold and a follow up lariat for another near fall, Naito escapes a suplex from ishii to only be hit with an inzaguri. Ishii goes for the brain buster and Naito counters right into a reverse DDT to get the three count.

Winner: Tetsuya Naito

After the match, the remaining Los Ingobernables members hit the ring and they beat up Tomohiro Ishii while Tetsuya Naito recovers.
