THE LATEST ON THE WWNLIVE ROKU CHANNEL, EVOLVE & DGUSA

By Mike Johnson on 2014-06-24 16:39:47
As you may have noted, there hasn't been much in the way of news on EVOLVE and Dragon Gate USA in recent weeks. That has been by design as Sal Hamaoui has taken a break from running events while he and his WWNLive.com company focus on finally getting their Roku channel up and running.

The process has been going on for some time and has cost Hamaoui a lot of money that was spent with developers who were unable to get the channel up and running and working in conjunction with the WWNLive.com website. He finally scrapped everything and began working with a company out of Denmark to pretty much rip the system apart and rebuild it from scratch, including taking every event ever promoted under the WWN banner - FIP, DGUSA, EVOLVE, SHINE, etc. and create new high quality video files from the masters so that they would be in compliance with Roku's requirements as well as work with different Internet speeds. Some of the events ended up requiring up to 12 different videos ripped from the masters and since we are talking about hundreds of masters, it's been a long, long process.

When the channel launches, it will feature VOD offerings for Kayfabe Commentaries, EVOLVE, SHIMMER, SHINE, Combat Zone Wrestling, FIP and Dragon Gate USA events as well as live streaming events from WWNLive affiliated companies that can be watched as they take place before being available via VOD.

The channel will also feature what is being termed "WWN 24/7" which will be 12-14 hours of different streaming content that will be available for free including a sit-down talk show discussing the week in wrestling and weekly TV shows from promotions that wish to make their shows available, for free, via WWNLive.com.

Beyond the VOD capabilities, where fans will be able to order events for a specific price, there will also be a subscription premium area for $14.95 a month that will feature exclusive content as well as free VOD replays of WWNLive.com events for several weeks after they air live. So, if you want to order SHINE and FIP iPPVs, for example, you could order them each separately or subscribe to the Premium section and watch them via VOD as part of your subscription for several weeks after the showing before the events are moved over to the VOD ordering area.

The channel is in the beta testing phase right now and the hope is that it can finally launch sometime this summer allowing WWNLive.com to get back on track with their live events and DVD releases as well.

"We want to be done with this and get going, " Hamaoui told PWInsider.com. "It's been a grueling process, but we are finally almost there."
