BATISTA TALKS ABOUT FANS REJECTING HIM FOR HIS RETURN AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-06-18 12:41:14
WWE.com featured an interview with Batista to promote his new WWE DVD and the forthcoming "Guardians of The Galaxy" film, discussing a number of topics.

Most interesting was Batista commenting on the fans rejecting him upon his return, including being booed at the Royal Rumble when he won over Roman Reigns (who was last man out) and Daniel Bryan (who was never booked in the match as his original Wrestlemania trajectory was for a match against Sheamus).

Batista commented, " It was weird. It wasn’t like a normal response. It was almost like a personal attack. It had to do with factors that were not in my control, factors and things that were going on in the company with other people, stuff that really had nothing to do with me. To me, it was a little frustrating, a little confusing, and, you know, I don’t want to say I completely took it personal, but I did somewhat."

That negative reaction continued to be fueled when CM Punk walked out of WWE the next day with TMZ.com placing the blame on the fact that Batista, not Punk, was planned to be in the main event. While there were obvious additional factors that led to the Punk walk-out, including physical and mental burnout, the Scarlet Letter of blame was now burned onto Batista.

Batista commented about the fans being down on him being back in that top position leading to Wrestlemania 30, noting, "What I heard over and over was, “Batista doesn’t deserve this,” and that’s what I took personally, because it’s like they forgot about my 10 years of pain and suffering and sacrifice. When I left the company, I gave plenty of notice, I left the right way, I did everything right. And also, my very last match, I broke my back. So I literally broke my back for the fans. And for me to come back and for them to say that I didn’t deserve the spot that I was being put in? For one thing, I didn’t ask for that spot. And here’s my thing with wrestling, and I tell this to everybody: If you get an opportunity, take the opportunity, and if you pass it up, you’re a fool. And if you hate on a guy just because he’s taking advantage of an opportunity that’s given to him, then you’re an idiot."

It was noted that while he quit on camera, he is still with the company and left, as we noted before his return, to handle commitments for "Guardians" which he noted was his way to finally get a big Hollywood role and scratch his acting itch after fighting to build his name in that world.

Batista also discusses a number of other topics, including the return of Evolution coming out of the fans rejecting him, Daniel Brian. Dolph Ziggler, Bluetista chants for his last match and more.
