EXTREME RISING PHILADELPHIA UPDATE, WHAT WAS PLANNED FOR THE CANCELED EVENT, INTERNATIONAL TALENTS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-02-10 16:41:18

With this past weekend's Extreme Rising event in Pittsburgh, PA being rescheduled for 5/3, there is a ripple effect on the announced 3/1 return to the former ECW Arena. The promotion was really down about canceling the Pitts weekend after the snow in the area didn't hit as hard as it was originally slated to, but felt it was better to be safe than sorry, because they didn't want the crew traveling all the way through a storm for a show on a mountain.

The Stevie Richards vs. Sabu main event from Pittsburgh for the Extreme Rising championship will now headline the 3/1 event. The original plan to do a rematch in Philly.

Sandman, Axl Rotten and Shane Douglas have been added to the Arena show as well. Rotten is being booked one show at a time right now and was booked after a number of fans pushed the promotion to give him another chance. Douglas is apparently back only as a talent.

Damien 666 and Bestia are off the 3/1 event but are booked for the 4/26 and 4/27 events. We are told that weekend will have a huge Lucha Libre presence with some names that have never worked in the Arena before.

It appears Homicide may be done here.

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Takaaki Watanabe is currently in the states and makes his Extreme Rising debut 3/1 in Philly. The original plan with Watanabe was to debut 12/28 at “Unfinished Business” in Philly, The storyline was that he would confront Greek God Papadon to set up their meeting 2/8. As it turned out, 2/8 didn’t work with Watanbe’s schedule, so he will debut on 3/1.

Extreme Rising will be debuting a “Wildkat Four Way” featuring top student standouts from Luke Hawx’s Wildkat Wrestling Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company likes Buko Dao and continues to watch his progress. “The SituAsian” Buko Dao has appeared twice thus far for Extreme Rising.

Steve Corino’s son Colby Corino will be making his official debut 3/1 in Philly. He worked under a mask and was aligned with Devon Storm at the last Philadelphia show. The idea here is to build a stable of new talent around Storm.

Steve Corino is booked for the 4/26 weekend.

So, the 3/1 lineup currently looks like:

*Extreme Rising champ Stevie Richards vs. Sabu
*Rhino vs. Devon Storm: Falls Count Anywhere
*Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten vs. 2 Tuff Tony & Matt Tremont
*Luke Hawx vs. Rich Ortiz
*Papadon vs. Takaaki Watanabe
*BLK OUT vs. Da Hit Squad & Gary Wolf
*Wildkat Four Way.
