THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS ARENA BEING PUSHED TO MOVE...YES, REALLY

By Mike Johnson on 2013-04-01 08:51:20
Believe it or not, there is a movement to get Madison Square Garden, which has been the "home arena" for WWE for many, many decades and will host this Saturday's 2013 WWE Hall of Fame ceremonies to move from it's current location at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza in New York City.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer is pushing that the venue be moved to a different location in order for the location to better service the needs of Penn Station, which sits underneath MSG and to expand the station, which is the New York stop for New Jersey Transit, Long Island Railroad and Amtrak trains, as well as a busy stop for the NYC subway system.

Despite the fact that the Garden is in the last phase of a $1 Billion upgrade to its facilities, Stringer is pushing for the Garden to be given ten years to locate and build another facility elsewhere in NYC.

The Garden actually has a permit to run events and mantain their space above Penn Station. They are pushing for an indefinite renewal of the permit, which quietly expired in January of this year.

Stringer, however, wants MSG out, feeling it would pave the way for an expansion to Penn Station, which can only help bring more tourists to the city, helping the city's economy.

The current location for MSG was built after Penn Station removed their above ground train stops in the late 1960s. It's the fourth location for the "World's Most Famous Arena" since its original location opened in 1879. The current location is literally in the center of Manhattan.
