Tomorrow, the first ever "National Pro Wrestling Day" event will be held at the National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA. The event is pretty unique in nature since: A)It's free.
B)It's going to feature 21 matches from 24 (and counting) promotions.
C)It's never been done before.
There are always a lot of different independent promotions running events, often against each other, so the idea of promotions from all over the country - some with greater awareness than others - all sending talents and/or matches to one show is pretty damn cool.
I go to a lot of wrestling shows a year and this is one I've been really interested in seeing since the concept was first explained to me. There are going to be a lot of talents who have never been seen in this part of the country and a lot of unique pairings.
You've got established names like 2 Cold Scorpio, Hurricane Helms, Tommy Dreamer, Steve Corino and even TNA Gutcheck winner Jay Bradley as well as top flight indy talents like The Briscoes, Colt Cabana and Mike Quackenbush and new generation stars like ACH, Shane Strickland, etc. all in the same place trying to steal the show and make a mark for themselves. Everyone is always looking for the next cool talent and the next break-out name and now they can scout them out for themselves.
FOR FREE.
The vast majority, if not all the talents working the show are appearing courtesy their various independent promotions. It's a chance for Resistance Pro and CWF Mid-Atlantic to get some of the attention in the Northeast that goes to CHIKARA and EVOLVE. It's a chance for different promotions and talents to network and compare notes. It also gives everyone a chance to strut their stuff and put on the best match they can to promote themselves and try and steal the show from all the other promotions. Hey, at the end of the day, it's still pro wrestling.
The bottom line is that this show is something different and fun - isn't that what pro wrestling is supposed to be about. And hell, if you are a fan, where else are you going to get two shows worth of wrestling, in one day, for FREE? It's insanity to think this thing is even taking place, but it is. If you are within 100 miles of Philadelphia and you love pro wrestling, you should be going.
If you aren't, well...there's always iPPV (which isn't free, but hey, they have to recoup their expenses!), which you can order at SMVOD.com.
If you are in the NYC or North New Jersey area, Wrestling Bus Trips (aka me) are running a trip with stops in Queens, Manhattan and Rahway, NJ to the show. That trip is $60 per person with very little seats left. For details, email wrestlingbustrips@gmail.com.
Of course, the best part of this is that there's going to be a LOT of friggin' pro wrestling and vendors at the show - what more could you ask for on National Pro Wrestling Day? Here's the complete list of announced matches:
Scheduled for the first show at 1 PM!
PWInsider (hey, that's us!) presents Rey de Voladores tournament:

Plus, just think - if this gets pulled off and does well, imagine what it could lead to for next time?
