PUNK INJURY UPDATE, WHY CENA CLOSED RAW AND MORE NEWS

For those who asked, WWE champ CM Punk was banged up after his match with Dolph Ziggler on Raw from the botched Stun Gun spot, but I was told that backstage, Punk gave the impression that it wasn't anything that was going to cause him any great concern. It was a pretty brutal looking tumble, so he's pretty damn tough. I was told that Punk was downplaying it backstage. Punk hit the ropes wrong as it appeared Ziggler went for the move too far from the ropes.

As I noted on my Elite audio yesterday, one of the reasons that Raw received poor reviews from those who watched it may have been that the script for the show wasn't completely put to bed until just an hour or so before they went on the air.

The ending to Raw, featuring Kane's explosion was planned a week or so back, but plans as to how they would get there creatively weren't locked in until the day of the show. The angle was done with the idea of creating a "safe but dangerous looking" cliffhanger for the Cena vs. Kane storyline. The special effects involved were why the Cena segment closed the TV show, obviously.

Jerry Lawler will be working the 1/21 !Bang! event in Ocala, Florida, teaming with Dory Funk Jr. as part of an eight man tag match.
