ROH ON HDNET REPORT: A BATTLE ROYAL TO DETERMINE THE LATEST ENTRANT INTO THE PICK SIX, THE BRISCOES BATTLE THE DARK CITY FIGHT CLUB FOR A TAG TITLE SHOT, THE LATEST ON THE EMBASSY-NECRO BUTCHER FEUD, AND MUCH MORE

By Stuart Carapola on 2010-05-14 21:30:00
Welcome to this week's coverage of ROH On HDNet!

We start right off with Mike and Dave, and they talk about the incident last week where Austin Aries kicked Delirious in the throat and then attacked Daizee Haze. Mike is disgusted by the situation, and we go to a video package taking us back to relive the moment.

After the opening video, we go to Jim Cornette who announces that the Briscoes will face the Dark City Fight Club tonight, with the winner facing the Kings Of Wrestling for the ROH World Tag Team Title at Death Before Dishonor VIII in Toronto. After that we see clips of the unbelievably amazing Briscoes-KOW match from the Big Bang iPPV. Let's go to the ring right now for that #1 Contender's match!

#1 Contender's Match: Jay & Mark Briscoe vs Dark City Fight Club

Jay and Kory Chavis start and go toe to toe right from the bell. Jay nails Chavis with a dropkick and Mark and Jon Davis come in and it's an all-out brawl. The fight spills out to the floor, and Davis suplexes Mark on the floor as Jay rams Chavis into the guardrail. Mark comes back and rams Davis into the ringpost and then hits a twisting senton off the guardrail onto Davis. Jay and Chavis head back in the ring and Jay hits a superkick and clothesline to get 2 on Chavis. Tag out to Mark and they hit the double football tackle on Chavis for 2. Mark with a suplex on Chavis and then tags out to Jay. Pretty amazing how dominant the Briscoes have been in this one. Jay suckerpunches Davis off the apron, but Davis pays him back by hooking Jay's ankle and dragging him out to the floor and laying him out, then catches Mark as he tries a dive off the apron and slams him into the guardrail. DCFC sends Jay back in the ring and Jay fights valiantly, but they hit a double team Ace Crusher for 2. Now the DCFC tries to get cute and nails Mark off the apron, then Davis tags in legally for the first time in this match. Davis repeatedly headbutts Jay and tags back out to Chavis, who gouges Jay in the eyes then tags back out to Davis. Tilt-a-whirl powerslam gets 2 on Jay, then tags Chavis back in. Chavis sits on Jay's back and just repeatedly punches him in the lower spine, then knocks Mark off the apron again before whipping Jay into the ropes for a back elbow for 2. Davis tags back in and they whip Jay hard into their corner and then knock Mark off the apron yet again, but the distraction allows Jay to nail both of them and roll to the corner to make the hot tag to Mark, who comes in and is a house of fire. Mark with a flying forearm takes Davis out and then another flying forearm out of the corner nails Chavis and then a clothesline sends Chavis over the top to the floor. Gargoyle suplex and another clothesline sends Davis out to the floor, and then Mark goes up top and moonsaults out to the floor onto the DCFC. Mark sends Davis back in and unloads with the Redneck Kung Fu, but Davis ducks a kick and takes Mark's head off with a clothesline. Jay in with a clothesline of his own and a DVD on Davis, but Chavis with a spinebuster on Jay, Mark comes off the top with a dropkick to take out Chavis, and then Davis hits the Pounce on Mark for 2. *WHEW!* Davis tries a powerbomb on Mark but Mark fights out, Chavis nails him and they go for Project Mayhem, but Jay tackles Chavis and Mark small packages Davis for the win and earn themselves a title shot at DBD8.

Winners: Jay & Mark Briscoe

Terrific match! Later on, a Pick Six Battle Royal to determine who gets Claudio Castagnoli's now vacant spot in the Pick Six. We go backstage to Kyle Durden with Austin Aries, and he asks about what happened last week with Delirious, and asks Aries if he's proud of himself. Aries says of course he is, but tonight he's focused on the battle royal. It's a little known fact that battle royals are A Double's forte, and he went back and looked at some of the masters of the battle royal like Andre, Studd and Haystacks Calhoun, and he says he's going to have no trouble eliminating 19 other guys to win the Pick Six spot. Durden informs him that there's only six men in this battle royal, and Aries says "Oh...this is going to be a piece of cake then!" Aries has become such a great character.

Prince Nana and Ernesto Osiris make their way to the ring, but before we go to their live comments, we have a pretaped segment with Prince Nana, who says the issue with Necro Butcher is not really an issue to him because they've been beating him to a bloody pulp every time. He mocks the free cheese and WIC checks Necro gets from the government. Then we go to comments from Erick Stevens, who says that Prince Nana is his boss and when Nana said he had a problem and needed Stevens to take care of it, he did the job. Now Necro Butcher says he doesn't know what Stevens is thinking or what he's going to gain from a war with him, and then we go back to Stevens, who says that this is just a business to him, and he doesn't give a damn if Necro's kids go hungry. We now go to a video package of the history of the Erick Stevens chapter of the Necro-Embassy feud, and then we head back to the ring for Nana's live comments.

Nana endears himself with his usual observations about the live audience, then brings out "the best member of the Embassy ever", Shawn Daivari. Daivari says that Nana painted a perfect picture to Daivari why he should join the Embassy, and Daivari told Stevens to take a vacation while he took care of the Necro Butcher. He runs Butcher down, and says it's now the Embassy's mission to break and destroy the Necro Butcher, and once they've done, they will have beaten and broken each and every one of the fans.

Next week: Kevin Steen faces Roderick Strong in a Pick Six match! But right now, let's go to Kyle Durden, who is with Eddie Kingston to get his thoughts on tonight's battle royal. Eddie says everyone wants an opportunity to be the ROH World Champion because it's the most valuable title in the industry today. He says he's going to win tonight's battle royal, and then he's going to come after the champion, whoever he is.

And now it's time for The Art Of Wrestling with Colt Cabana. He's invited Bobby Cruise onto the show to talk about...the art of talking. Bobby keeps trying to start talking, but Cabana keeps cutting him off until Cruise gets fed up and walks off the set. Well, that was...odd.

Hey, remember when Eddie Edwards recently won the ROH World TV Title? Well in case you didn't, let's go to a video package detailing his path to the title! And now that you're reminded of how awesome Eddie Edwards is, let's go back to the ring for our main event...

Pick Six Battle Royal: Austin Aries vs Rhett Titus vs Joey Ryan vs Rasche Brown vs Jerry Lynn vs Eddie Kingston

Kingston goes right after Ryan, who hightails it to the floor. Bell rings, and we're underway! This is not going to be easy to recap. Hey, remember when ROH finally had their first ever battle royal...in 2008? What's this, the third or so battle royal since then? Hey, at least when they do it it makes sense. Kingston finally gets ahold of Ryan, but Aries nails him from behind, then scurries out to the floor with Titus. Lynn and Kingston go at it in the corner, and Aries and Titus slip back in and nail them. Rasche gets ahold of Titus and tries to toss him as Lynn turns the tables and tries to get Aries over the top. Kingston and Ryan are still going at it in the other corner as Titus and Aries try to toss Lynn, but Rasche makes the save. Lynn and Rasche try to eliminate Aries, but Titus rakes Rasche's back to save the day. Titus with a chop, Rasche no-sells, and he open-palms Titus repeatedly. I would not mess with that dude. Rasche tries to toss Titus, but Titus lands on the apron and rolls back under the bottom rope, but no sooner does he make it back in when Kingston clotheslines Ryan and the both of them go over the top to the floor and then brawl all the way to the back. Back in the ring, Lynn comes off the top with a double axhandle on Aries, then tries to form an alliance with Rasche Brown. Rasche nails Titus as Aries lays out Lynn, and then Rasche and Aries go face to chest. Aries tries to back off, but comes off the ropes with a shoulderblock and goes down like a ton of bricks. Aries decides that discretion is the better part of valor and goes to the floor as Rasche cleans house. He picks up Lynn, boots both Titus and Aries in the face while still holding Lynn, then powerslams Lynn before hitting a back elbow in the corner on Aries. Rasche whips Lynn across the ring but eats boot on a charge and Lynn gets a tornado DDT. Lynn tries a monkey flip on Rasche but Rasche catches him and hooks his legs under Rasche's arms and, with help from Titus and Aries, the three of them are able to lever him over the top to the floor. Rasche is an unhappy man and he comes back in, lays all three men out, then press slams Aries about seven feet in the air and onto Titus. We;re down to Lynn, Titus and Aries, and Lynn is in a tough spot. Aries and Titus double team him but Lynn comes back with a neckbreaker on Aries/DDT on Titus combo. Lynn sends Aries out between the ropes to the floor and Titus nails him from behind and tries a powerbomb, but Lynn headscissors Titus to the floor. Lynn lands on the apron however, and that allows Aries to dropkick Lynn to the floor and win the match to claim the #6 spot in the Pick Six.

Winner: Austin Aries

This was a fun main event. Rasche Brown looked like a monster, and I'm really interested to see what they do with him over the long term, he's a guy I can see becoming a star, especially if they continue to book him like this. We close the episode with one more look back at the Aries-Delirious Incident and that's that.

I really liked this week's episode, as I said the battle royal was a lot of fun, the opening tag match was awesome, and I liked all the hype for the Necro-Embassy feud. I have to admit that I haven't been that enchanted with the feud because it's mostly boiled down to a series of matches and brawls without much storyline build, but I liked how we got into the heads of all the particulars in the feud and framed the Embassy as heartless jerks who don't care if Necro can't feed his family, they just want to put him out. Well done.

Okay, that's going to do it for me, see you guys next week!
