SCARY INJURY AT DGUSA PPV TAPING SATURDAY, LINEUP FOR FRIDAY'S MERCURY RISING PPV, LOTS OF CANADA NEWS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2010-05-10 09:42:47
Dragon Gate USA were very happy with the crowd for their Toronto debut/Uprising PPV taping this past  Saturday and are already working on plans for a return show when they can fit it into their scheduling.

The Windsor, Ontario house was a disappointment and the belief after the weekend was the company made a tactical error running Windsor instead of Detroit (the two are separated by a tunnel).  The belief is that American fans didn't make the trek into Canada for the shows (you need a passport to travel back and forth now) but had they run Detroit, the situation would have reversed itself.

There was a freak injury towards the end of the Uprising PPV taping where FIP champion Jon Moxley almost lost his nipple.  Yes, his nipple.  Jimmy Jacobs hit a tope on Moxley, who ended up hitting the guardrail in such a way, it sliced his chest.  I was told Moxley's nipple was just about hanging off backstage before he was given medical treatment.  He was in a lot of pain but will recover.

British star PAC, who made his debut over the weekend, will be brought back in.

Scott D'Amore's Maximum Pro Wrestling was given high marks for their promotional work over the weekend, so I'd expect the two sides to work together going forward.

Jade Chung, who did the angle with the Embassy several years back in Ring of Honor, was booked as BxB Hulk's dancer at the Toronto PPV but didn't get on the apron.  Last I had heard of Chung, she had relocated to the West Coast.

Both the Windsor and Ontario dates got glowing reviews from everyone we heard from over the weekend.  I wanted to make a specific note to thank Mike Cranwell for all his help this weekend as well.

The promotion is very happy so far with the advance sales for their 7/24 Philadelphia One Year Anniversary event.

The next Dragon Gate USA PPV offering, Mercury Rising, will debut this Friday 5/14 via InDemand and other PPV outlets. The full lineup of the PPV, which was taped in Phoenix, Arizona over Wrestlemania weekend, will feature:

*CIMA, Dragon Kid & Gamma vs. BxB Hulk, Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino

*Open The Freedom Gate champ YAMATO vs. Susumu Yokosuka

*Hardcore Match: Tommy Dreamer vs. Jon Moxley

*Loser Of The Fall Leaves DGUSA: Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Jack Evans

*Special Challenge Match: Shingo vs. Genki Horiguchi

I'll have a PPV report up before tomorrow.
