TNA IN POUGHKEEPSIE, NY LIVE REPORT: STYLES VS. DANIELS, WOLFE VS. ANGLE AND MORE

By Eric Sturrock on 2010-01-10 10:38:30
TNA in Poughkeepsite, NY Report 1/9/10 from the Mid-Hudson Civic Center

Got inside and went to Don West at the Maerch stand. Got the 4 DVD/Sting Shirt Package for $20 and the TNA Shirt that West said was his favorite. I asked West about Jermey Borash’s backstage pass and he said that about 100 people already asked him about that. Northeast Wrestling had people inside and outside the arena handing out cards for a Mickie James autograph session in Newburgh on Jan. 30th $25 for Pic of her w/ u or Autogrpah. $40 for both. And promoting their Northeast Wrestling Event in Newburgh on April 23rd.

Their was a banner up inside for WPDH(a rock station in Poughkeepsie) and below the sign was Jeff Jarrett, Beer Money Inc., Earl Hebner, & Slick Johnson. Atlas Security was handing out the programs, Jarrett & Beer Money Inc. pictures(which the Beer pics came with a CD). Beer did not talk, but Slick said cool jacket(#18 Kyle Busch M&M’s) he asked if it was Jeff Gordon’s. Earl looked up and Jarrett said “My Boy (Elliott) Sadler use to drive that car.” Atlas Security would not let anyone take pictures of them as it would hold up the line.

The arena was about 70-75% package. The entire stage where the Music Acts usual play was blocked off. The rest of the floor and the bleachers were packed except for a few rows.

The TNA guy that warms up the crowd came out and did his spiel about videoing sharkboy, etc. He brought about WPDH’s Cooper with 2 little kids. Cooper talked about WPDH and their “man Show” at the Civic Center in a few weeks, he talked abut wrestling and went on and on (like last time). The TNA guy came over to get the mic and he kept talking. Then he had the 2 little kids climb the ropes (Copper did not try to this time) as Jeremy Borash was on his way down to the ring. Borash welcomed everyone to the show. He almost butchered saying Poughkeepsie the 1st time. He did his spiel about backstage passes. The Trashy lady who's 40ish who is front row at every wrestling show in Poughkeepsie was jumping up and down and screaming at Jeremy.  The guys at the TNA desk were laughing about that with one of the Atlas guys.

1st Match: Rhino vs. D’Angelo Dinero. Ref Slick Johnson. Before the match the crowd was chanting for both of them then a ECW chant broke out (a lot of ECW shows were in Poughkeepsie including one PPVs for ECW). Rhino took the mic and said ECW is over and that its TNA now. He said He saw he was coming to Poughkeepie and how Poughkeepsie is the one city he never wanted to come to again. Dinero then took the mic and said he wears his mask to the ring because of Rhino’s breath.  Back and forth match that went about 10 minutes. Rhino went for the gore but Dinero shoved him into the turnbuckle. Dinero then hit the D’Angelo Dinero Express for the win. Dinero then had each side of the crowd cheer him then taunted the downed Rhino.

2nd Match: The Beautiful People vs. Sarita & Taylor Wilde with a local radio winner (who sat ringside for the match). Ref Earl Hebner. Jeremy introduced Earl as the most famous ref in the world Earl came out and flexed. BP did their usual ring entrance.  As Wilde/Sarita made their way to the ring, BP mocked them. After Sarita and Wilde got into the ring. Velvet said how we are all perverts for watching them in Strip Poker Monday night. Madison asked them where were their tag belts and called them losers. Sarita and Wilde threw them out of the ring. Madison/Sarita started the match. Then Velvet/Sarita worked most of the match. A lot of near falls off the bat. Which caused some drunk fans to my left to chant “Learn to Wrestle.”  BP tagged in and out working on Wilde. Madison put Wilde’s head between her legs and slamed her head into the mat about 6 times. (Funny stuff). Velvet taunted Sarita with Wilde’s hand. Sarita got the the hot tag and knocked down the BP. BP then for about 1 minute double team Sarita as Wilde just stood on the apron. Sarita threw Madison into Velvet, then into Earl. Earl grabbed her and huged her then kissed her. Madison acted upset as Earl ran around the ring. Wilde got tagged back in and Velvet rolled her up with a handful of tights for the win. BP celebrated outside of the ring. Sarita and Wilde saluted the crowd before leaving. Match was about 8 minutes long.

3rd Match Homicide vs. Amazing Red. X-Division Championship Title Match. Ref Slick Johnson. Homicide fooled around with of the TNA desk guys when handing him his hoodie. Homicide stole the X-Title from Johnson and held it up on top rope till Slick took it back. Red hit some nice moves in the match. Match ran about 10 minutes. Homicide took control of the match. They went back and forth with moves including Red hitting about 5 dropkicks in a row. In the end Red hit a Red Eye but Homicide kicked out at 2, so Red ran and hits a Red Star Press for the win. The crowd really got into Red as the match went on.

4th Match: Desmond Wolfe vs. Kurt Angle. Ref Earl Hebner. JB made it known that Wolfe is from the United Kingdom so the crowd was against him already. Angle got a huge pop. Wolfe taunted the crowd a lot. They locked up and did about 5 or more minutes of mat wrestling which caused the drunks to my left to chant “This is boring” “This match sucks” The crowd was chanting really loud “USA” and Wolfe mocked them. Then some loud “Angle” chants. They had some stiff looking moves. Angle hit 2 Belly 2 Belly Suplxes. Angle hit the Angle Slam then the Ankle lock. Wolfe threw Angle into the turnbuckle which had the crowd gasp. Wolfe put Angle in a Arm Bar. Angle then put Wolfe into the Ankle lock again and locked it tight causing Wolfe to tap out. Hebner helped Wolfe to the back.

JB got in the ring he plaged Don’s Deals at Merch Stand. He asked if the crowd saw Flair & Hardy at Impact. He said Hogan told him big news about the PPV this morning. He then told everyone that Sarita/Wilde are signing autographs in the lobby. And that their taking a 15minute intermission. Almost everybody either went to the lobby or to the bathrooms. Many were not back when the show resume.

5th Match: Eric Young & Kevin Nash vs. Beer Money Inc. Ref Slick Johnson. Nash got some nice support from the crowd when he was introduced. Nash sat next to Borash as Beer did their spiel in the ring. Simon Diamond came out to watch this match from ringside. Beer Inc said they have some passes to hand out. JB ran around the ring seeing who was cheering more. Nash and Eric took them away. Nash went over to a large man in front row and went to give it to him then tore it up in his face. Eric tore his up on the top rope. Storm went into crowd and drank 2 people’s cups of beer. Nash went over to the trashy looking lady sitting front row and hugged her and smacked her butt. Storm then went to the lady and motor boated her. JB, The guys at desk were laughing hard. JB was taking some pics of the match with his phone. Beer split Nash legs in half in the start of the match. Beer then smashed Eric’s head into Nash’s groin about 5 times. Nash went 5 elbows on Storm in the turnbuckle. The drunk guys yelled “Nash the 5 move man.” Eric & Nash worked over Storm. Storm went to tag out but Nash ran out knocked him off apron. Roode made the hot tag and threw Eric around. Nash interfered and Eric hit a flying elow off the top rope for 2 and grabed Slick yelling at him. As Eric argued Beer doubled team and layed out Nash then hit the DWI on Eric for the win.

JB said the next match is the main event then TNA had something “special just for us.” After it.

Main Event: Daniels vs. AJ Styles TNA Championship Title Match with Special Guest Ref: Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett got a nice pop. Jarrett shook hands with JB. The lights go out for AJ’s entrance. Their still off….still off….still off. JB introduces AJ in the dark and the spotlight heads him silently to the ring without his music. AJ stood by the TNA Desk, as JB tried to figure out why AJ’s music was not playing. His music finally started and AJ posed in the ring. JB did the TNA main Event introduction again. AJ told one of the guys at the desk to fix the one loose rope. AJ had a nice crowd reaction as soon as the match started. Jarrett kept getting between them when they where in the ropes. Nice back & forth action. They kept teasing a Jarrett/Daniels stand off through out the match.  JB took some pics of the match with his cell. AJ hits some chops to Daniels chest and let out the weakening sounding “Woo!” ever.  Daniels teased punching Jarrett behind his back. Crowd started chanting “This is Awesome!” as the match went on.  AJ went for the Styles clash but Daniels grabbed the rope, Jarrett kicked Daniels hand off the rope. Daniels got free and shoved Jarrett down. Jarrett went to clothesline Daniels but missed and took out AJ. Jarrett looked disgusted and Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever but AJ kicked out. Daniels yelled at Jarrett, as JB stood up and told everyone it was only 2. AJ hit the Styles Clash for the win.

I ran down towards the ringside area as JB told everyone its time to party with a autograph session. He said how groups can get into the ring with Styles for $20. The trashy lady knocked 2 kids over as soon as JB said that.  Sarita & Taylor Wilde came out 1st. Wilde ran by everyone quickly skipping many people including me then she left (she spent the fewest time with everyone). Sarita spent a nice time with everyone signing everything. Amazing Red followed and signed everything. Red on his way to the back saw a little girl by the entrance way and picked her up and brought her into the ring to get her picture taken with AJ. AJ joked to throw Red out. Slick Johnson was taking the pictures as Simon Diamond herded the people from of the ring. Earl Hebner came by next and was nice to everyone when he saw Madison Rayne come out right in front of me. He hugged her and Madison laughing then yelled “Don’t touch me you crazy old man.” A fan says Earl can do that he was a ref before you were born. Madison  laughing still said “Exactly he's a crazy old man.” Madison was very nice to everyone. D’Anglo Dinero spent the best time with everyone making sure every single person got something signed. He even went backwards to sign stuff for people he missed. He jokingly passed us and came back. After he took a picture with me he walked backwards into Velvet Sky and steped on her foot. Velvet was nice was well and leaned over the guardrail to take pictures. Atlas Security started to try to hurry them around then.

I went out to the lobby and Don West was still selling some stuff and signing autographs for fans. I asked him when did the person get the free backstage pass JB left with him. West said somehow some lady got into the arena 40 minutes before the doors opened and got it. I asked is she sitting front row. He laughed and said yes she is. I said how every time wrestling comes here she always sits front row and hangs all over all the wrestlers by her. He laughed. West asked who my jacket was I said Kyle Busch. He said “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Kyle Busch. I use to do a sports radio show in Nashville a few years ago. And the 1st two time I met him he was 18 and then 19 and he was nice. But then he was 20 and had money and he had some attitude. But he wins all the time. My man is Mark Martin.” He was very nice and had a lot of people coming over to him.

Overall it was a great show. Don West as the Merch brings a cool feel to the show. Having talent meet the fans like that is something WWE doesn’t do (except Former WWE Ref Marty Elias last year sold programs). The Center was more packed then it was 2 years ago. The show was fun and seemed to fly by. The post show autograph session seemed better then last year as well.
