PWINSIDER Q&A: ULTIMATE WARRIOR, BRUNO SAMMARTINO, FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2009-07-24 10:00:00

Do you feel Ultimate Warrior deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame? I think too many others deserve a place more than him. He was a great entertainer but as for wrestling ability.....your thoughts?

Given the talent level of others in the Hall Of Fame, then Warrior certainly deserves his spot as well.  He certainly was as important to wrestling as William Perry or Pete Rose was.

In your opinion, who is the most overrated wrestler and the most underrated wrestler throughout wrestling?

It depends on what aspect of the performer you are looking at. Lex Luger was ridiculously overrated in my opinion, but had years as a top star.  The only good matches Luger ever had were against Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Ricky Steamboat and the Steiners at points where those wrestlers could have carried a wet rag to a good match.  For underrated, I think Marty Jannetty is much better than history will remember him as being.  Unfortunately, he has no one to blame but himself and his demons for that.

Are there any rule differences between any of the following matches: No Holds Barred, Hardcore, Extreme Rules, No Countout/No DQ, Street Fight, and Falls Count Anywhere? I understand that a wrestler would more likely come out in a pair of jeans in a street fight, or a wrestler might be more inclined to use weapons in a Extreme Rules match in comparison to a Falls Count Anywhere match, but technically, aren't they all the same?

As far as I know, the only real difference in any of those matches is in a Falls Count Anywhere match, since, obviously, falls count anywhere, while the other matches have to end in the ring. It's all just semantics.

To your knowledge, have you ever heard of a wrestler ever received a concussion, during or after a match? A concussion like football players receive.

Absolutely.  I know that concussions have become a hot topic now because of the situation in football, but wrestlers have been dealing with concussions for years.  Sometimes they are not "as serious" as a career ending one like Bret Hart suffered, but wrestlers are definitely at risk to suffer concussions, just by the very nature of the line of work they are in.

Will Bruno Sammartino ever be elected to the Hall of Fame?  In my opinion in his prime, he could out wrestle any of the current and older wrestlers.

It's really up to Bruno, to be honest.  WWE has reached out to him in the past about it, but Bruno feels that accepting an induction to the Hall Of Fame would be hypocritical given the way he feels about Vince McMahon and the WWE product. There's no doubt he belongs in there, and in the eyes of many, it isn't "really a Hall Of Fame" without him.
