PWINSIDER Q&A: TNA VS. WWE, JBL, UNDERTAKER, FOUR HORSEMEN AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2009-07-23 10:00:00

Financially speaking, why would anyone want to join TNA? No way can TNA match WWE pay.

Different wrestlers have different reasons.  First of all, it isn't like TNA isn't paying their wrestlers a good wage.  Several TNA stars apparently are very happy with what they make for working essentially three-four times a month.  Second, some wrestlers would rather make less than they were in WWE, but work a MUCH less rigorous schedule.  A WWE full-time performer can wrestle four times a week (more during overseas tours), and have to pay for their own hotel and rental cars.  Also, while TNA wrestlers are prohibited for working for ROH, performers seem to have no problem finding other independent shows to work when not doing TNA shots.  Plus, TNA has been adding more and more house shows to their schedule, giving some talent more paydays from TNA alone.

What did you think of JBL as a color commentator?

I think that JBL developed over the course of his run behind the desk nto a fantastic color commentator.  At first, he seemed obsessed with getting himself and his character over at the expense of everything else on the show. Over time, he began to call the matches more, and actually apply his knowledge to what he was calling.  It was obvious that he was putting in a real effort to be a great announcer, and used historical references, his own past experience, and storyline background to truly add color to what was going on during a broadcast.

I remember reading about how the Undertaker sat at the gorilla position at Wrestlemaina 14 during the main event (Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin). Said this about Michaels, “If he does not drop the belt I am going to drop him". Is there any truth to that?

While some people deny it happening, I have heard from more than a few people who were there that Undertaker did indeed make it clear that if Michaels tried to pull anything during the main event and not lose the title that night, he was going to take matters into his own hands, and yes, I have heard that quote you mentioned attributed to him at that time.

In your opinion, which version of the Four Horsemen was the best?

To me, the best version was Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Barry Windham, slightly edging out the original group of Flair, Arn, Tully and Ole Anderson for the top spot.

Have we seen the last of DX?

Magic 8-Ball says "Absolutely not".  There's definitely more T-shirts to be sold before that gimmick is put away for good.
