PWINSIDER Q & A: TURNS IN WWE, WHAT IS WRONG WITH MICHAEL COLE, NOT WANTING TO BE ON RAW, WHY DO WRESTLING SITES REPORT NEWS AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2009-06-22 10:00:00

Why are there so many turns going on?

It's WWE's way of trying to keep things fresh,  They figure that by trying guys in new roles it could spruce up the shows.

Something has been bothering me for years, and it seems to be getting worse, so I have to ask someone - and this seems the place to ask. Wrestling sites have news going up all day (I'm not going to talk about any one in particular...let's just be vague here so no one is revealed or anyone gets in any trouble)...but where do they get all of their news from? Obviously there are people backstage who can't keep their mouth shut, like on the writers staff...fine. I get that. What I mean is all of the little nuances and specific details.

Wait a second, you read wrestling news sites and are bothered that we report news?  That is pretty bizarre if you ask me.  How we get the news is by working hard and talking to our many contacts in the business.  Sadly, how most other sites get news is by coming to our site.  Wrestling is no different than any other medium.  Reporters get news and report it.  That is how media works.

What the hell is up with Michael Cole? I used to like him when he was JBL and even with Tazz, but since being traded to Raw, I just find extremely annoying. He keeps blurting random lines like "John Cena!", "The Animal!" with no follow up, or he doesn't finish his sentences, or he continuously asks questions. At one point, Lawler even asked him why he kept asking him questions. Now I understand why Jim Ross is a Hall of Famer.

Cole is just doing what Vince McMahon wants him to do.  It's that simple.  On Smackdown, you aren't under the bosses' thumb as much as you are when you are on his baby.  So, Cole was able to be better there.  Plus, he was working with Tazz, who he formed a great team with, and JBL, who improved a lot as time went by.  On Raw, he is paired with Jerry Lawler and the two of them just don't work that well together in my opinion.

Even though Raw is the flagship show of the WWE, why would anyone want to go there? With what creative is doing it's more like the cemetery of wrestlers, and even GMs. If I were a wrestler I would beg to go to ECW or Smackdown.

A lot of wrestlers feel the same way that you do, especially those that have been in the company for a while.  As mentioned above, they know that Vince is the most active with Raw (which can be a very bad thing if you aren't a top guy) and they see the way the show is being booked.  Nowadays, a lot of people are very happy when they get off of Monday nights and go to Smackdown.

Hi, Just wanted your opinion on something. I WAS a huge fan of wrestling since Wrestlemania 3 and never missed a PPV, Nitro, Raw, or ECW show I could watch since then. However, since 2005 I have gone down to only watching 1 hour of RAW and then not watching it all for the last 2 years. I now watch Judge Judy during those hours who I found to be better than Vince’s character and she also has better storylines. Then I moved from not liking the product to also not liking the industry. I had not been to live event in years but I was invited to one recently (I wouldn’t pay for it myself) and I felt embarrassed being there hoping no one I knew saw me there. I went from deeply saddened when I heard about Eddie’s death to just thinking “eh, another wrestler died” when I read about Test’s death. Then reading and seeing on TV the other wrestler’s comments, they sounded like robots and gave me the impression that they are ok with their peers using and abusing drugs but only unfortunate they die. To being annoyed how the fans get upset how the employees (I mean, wrestlers) are treated to feed their massive egos (being on Smackdown instead of RAW, short or no title reigns, etc). That wouldn’t happen in my job or in any job. I mean, why aren’t people outraged over the fact that Mike always covers the big PPV’s live and not Buck? Your thoughts???

My thoughts?  I am not sure what you asked.  As best as I can sum it up, you used to like wrestling a lot but don't any more.  Other than that, I am not sure what you are saying.  I don't know, maybe it would best if you went to a Judge Judy website (by the way, Judge Mathis is the best one out there).
