PWINSIDER Q&A: JIM ROSS' WWF DEBUT, SHAWN MICHAELS' WWE RETURN, LOW KI ON MAIN WWE ROSTER AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2009-06-28 10:00:00
Wondering if you could answer this for me since you have the better memory.  I was watching the Randy Savage DVD and during the match between Savage and Bret Hart versus Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels, Jim Ross is doing the play by play.  This match had to have taken place during the summer of 1992 because Savage was WWF Champion and Hart was I.C. Champion.  I always thought Jim Ross made his WWF debut at Wrestlemania IX in 1993.  So my question is when exactly did he start working for the WWF?

Ross started with the WWF in 1993, so the commentary was probably recorded specifically for the DVD or later on.  My guess is that WWE may have wanted something removed from the original commentary, so they had a new audio track put in.  WWE actually does it quite a bit.

Tell me what you think please... It seems to me that besides Jericho and Edge Smackdown seems to lack major heels. How about bringing Joey Styles back to an on camera role as the manager of Matt Striker, who decides he has had enough doing commentary and wants to compete again. All Joey and Matt would have to do is spout their out of touch political views and bingo !!!! They would make Vickie Guerrero's heat seem like owls chirping. They could call themselves the Grand Old Peons. They would instantly become the most hated duo in the last 10 years at least!!!!!! What do you think?

It's a funny idea, but I don't see WWE doing anything that would paint them as anything but bi-partisan.  Based on how Styles has been silent in that regard, the assumption would be that WWE put the clamp down on Styles posting political views via his company twitter, but we'll see.

Was I imagining things or did the 6/12/09 Friday Night Smackdown have a "film"look instead of the normal videotaped look?

It wasn't you.  I noticed it immediately.  It appears it may have been a side effect of the transition to DTV.

I was wondering if you had any idea when Kaval (Low Ki) is going to be moved up to the main WWE roster.

Kaval has been out with a knee injury that required surgery.  I haven't heard anything in regard to a return, much less a move to the main roster.  He maintains a website at www.low-ki.com  so you can follow him there for updates.  I'm really hopeful he can eventually break out on the main roster as I'm a big fan of his work and was actually at his "first" match in October 1998 at the former Elks Lodge in Queens, NY.

Triple H returned on the 8th June Raw obviously, but did anybody else notice the "suck it" taunt a couple seconds before Raw went off air. With the DX Reunion tour in November here in the UK. I've got to ask, surely DX will be back very shortly? Whats the plans with them?

Michaels will be back by then, at least to do the tour.
