REY MYSTERIO INJURY UPDATE, ECW RATINGS NOTE, THE BASH PPV AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2009-06-10 22:19:56

Since we've been asked about Rey Mysterio not appearing at the Smackdown taping this past Tuesday, I asked around and was told that he had been scheduled to miss the taping due to a lingering knee injury.  His absence had been planned prior to the Intercontinental championship loss to Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules and there are plans to continue the Rey vs. Jericho storyline.

Earlier today, Dave Scherer noted the ECW rating was up to a 1.2 this week.  I would attribute that to interest in Tommy Dreamer's ECW title win.  The rating is pretty strong when you consider all the heavy competition from sports that night, including The New York Mets vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, The New York Yankees vs. The Boston Red Sox, plus NBA and NHL finals airing.   WWE should be really happy with that rating.  As I said earlier today on my Elite audio hotline, ECW is probably the most underrated hour of wrestling television in recent weeks and is really worth checking out.

Lee sent word that "Whyyawannabringmedown" by Aranda is the official theme for The Bash 2009.  Batista is the focal point of all the advertising for the PPV, which is a rough break for WWE.

The infamous Andy Kaufman film "Breakfast with Blassie" featuring WWE Hall of Fame Freddie Blassie will be released on DVD on 6/16 and can be ordered in the PWInsider.com Superstore. DVD Extras include "Blassie Graffiti" and a Making of featurette.
