WWE HALL OF FAME NOTES & NEWS: 2009 CLASS MEMBER PUBLISHES THE SPEECH HE WANTED TO GIVE, ATTENDANCE RECORD SET, SUGGESTION FOR NEXT YEAR & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2009-04-07 12:26:27

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Watts has posted the entire speech he intended to give at the Hall of Fame ceremony over the weekend, which he cut down due to time constraints.  The speech is awesome and can be read by clicking here

Speaking of the Hall of Fame, it was a legitimate sellout of 11,000 fans, which was the biggest crowd in the history of the event.

This year's event was the first where WWE did not give out free programs or a special coin devoted to the event for fans attending the event. The program, which was a slicky produced program in the vein of the usual Wrestlemania program, was instead $20 and featured color photos on all of the Hall of Fame members, plus bios on the 2009 class.

A few quick thoughts on the Hall of Fame ceremony, although Buck Woodward and I recorded a long discussion of the ceremony on Saturday after it's completion that you can listen to now in the PWInsider.com Elite section:

*I love that WWE made the call to ask fans to behave themselves at the show. It was extremely embarassing last year for fans to be catcalling the Gordon Solie family in Orlando last year. You can't always control what 10,000 people are going to do, but you can make the effort. I was glad WWE did.

I really hope and suggest that WWE makes the call to move the WWE Hall of Fame to Friday next year. The version I attended on Saturday, which was more or less a TV taping for a special that will be immediately forgotten, was so much less impressive than any other Hall of Fame ceremony I've attended.  It's really unfair to say to someone, "We want to recognize you for your achievements, but you only have five minutes to talk."  Moving the event a day earlier will give them the best of both worlds - a chance to have that great tribute to the history of the business and the time to edit it down without the insane level of stress that the WWE Production crew has had the last few years.
