Last week, PWInsider.com reported that Booker T's Fight for Kids Foundation, a charity the TNA star heads, would be promoting the first-ever "Booker T's Legends of Wrestling Fanfest" on Friday 4/5 in Houston, Texas.
The convention, obviously timed to use the Wrestlemania synergy, is designed as a fundraiser for the charity. Booker handles a lot of charity events in the Houston area, where he was born and raised.
Since word of Booker's convention came out, World Wrestling Entertainment began contacting a number of talents and instead booked them to appear in some fashion over the Wrestlemania weekend, including the company's AXXESS sessions and the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, specifically asking them not to appear on the Booker T event.
PWInsider.com has confirmed that Torrie Wilson, Nick Bockwinkel, Tito Santana and Ron Simmons have all pulled out of the Booker T convention after they accepted WWE bookings. In the case of most, Booker T had purchased plane tickets for their travel.
Sid Vicious has also pulled off the convention, although I don't know if that was due to WWE interest in Vicious. There has been back and forth talk about him getting a tryout with WWE over the last 18 months, but it never seems to happen.
It's interesting to see the timing WWE suddenly booking former talents that they don't regularly use immediately after their names are announced for a charity event that would go up against WWE's own Wrestlemania weekend plans.
Currently set for the Booker T Legends of Wrestling Fanfest are Sting, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Amy "Lita" Dumas, Booker T, Sharmell, Team 3D, Ernest Miller, Christy Hemme, The Beautiful People, Jimmy Hart, Jake Roberts and Brian Knobbs.
