PWINSIDER Q&A: SUPERBOWL, DIVAS, CHRISTMAS BREAK AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-12-18 10:00:00

How many more tapings are scheduled for both WWE and TNA before the Christmas break?

The only taping left is a "Supershow" Raw and Smackdown taping on December 22nd in Toronto, Canada.

Why do all the Divas (well almost all) do the exact same thing when they get in the ring? They all go to the corner put one hand in the air or behind their head and point to the crowd. It is a little annoying that they all do the same damn thing. They are all ripping off the Trish Stratus run and point she used to do. Is this a lack of intelligence on the performers part or creative not having any other ideas on how to get them to rile up the crowd? Melina and Beth are the only two I can think of that are semi-baby faces that don't do this.

Well, they don't do the exact same thing as each other, but yes, they all do the exact same poses, motions and even fan interactions on the way to the ring.  WWE ingrains in their Divas that they each have a trademark entrance that they should do every time they come down the ramp.  Personally, while I don't have a problem with a signature gesture or two, I would like to see a little spontaneity in their entrances as well.

Where can one find info on autograph signings and such? I see you post some online, but I have to believe I am missing the ones down here in South Florida, or they just don't have them. Where is the best place to find appearance and singing info?

Whatever appearance information we get sent, we post on the site.  Other than that, I would check out the schedule on WWE.com, which lately has been better updated.

What was the story with the commercial the WWF ran during the 99 Super Bowl? I remember there being some controversy about the commercial and that the WWF had actually filmed two versions. I did a little inter-googling and found both versions of the commercial and I was wondering if they ever intended to air the "alternate" more risky version. Or was this simply a way for Vince to say "this is what the NFL doesn't want you to see" and run the riskier commercial during a Raw broadcast.

As I recall, WWE just made two ads, was advised that one was a bit too much and I think too long, and went with the tamer and shorter version.

Also, why did they switch the title to Mankind at the Super Bowl halftime match? At the time I thought it was because he was holding the title in the commercial, but now after watching both versions I know this isn't true... any back story to that title switch?

The title switch to Mankind was done so that fans who tuned into the Halftime Heat event saw something important as well as unique, rather than just a match in an empty building.
