PWINSIDER Q&A: INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE ORIGINS, DEVELOPMENTAL TALENTS THAT COULD HAVE MADE IT, ECW TALENTS TNA SHOULD SIGN AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-12-07 11:11:15

On the new WWE Intercontinental championship DVD, they clamed Pat Patterson won a tournament to merge the North and South American championships - who was in this tournament and who was the South American champ going in?

There was no tournament.  It was a phantom event to give a storyline background for the introduction of the Intercontinental championship, which replaced Patterson's North American title after he defeated Ted DiBiase for the belt.

My question is do you have any idea how the editing worked for the CCW show?  The reason I ask is this:  My friend and I went to 2 tapings, the 2nd one being last week's show.  We were seated right in front of the hard camera so we were onscreen pretty much the whole show (matches).  Then there were 2 close ups of us on screen.  Now, that was last week's show.  So on this weeks show which we DID NOT attend, we are shown on TV 3 times, 2 close up shots and one wide shot of the fans.  I thought this was hilarious because we DID NOT attend the finale taping, yet we're on TV more than once on a show we didn't attend.  So I was just curious as to why exactly did we show up on TV at a show we were not at.  When I first noticed us I tripped out, then since I recorded it I went back and paused it and sure enough, it was my friend and I on camera at the series finale which we did not attend.

From what I understand, the series was shot and edited like a reality show, not a pro wrestling show, in terms of there was a lot of editing to create the best atmosphere for each episode's wrestling segments.  Since by attending the event, you give your permission for your image to be used in any way they see fit, they have the rights to use that footage when splicing different shows together.

Do you know when WWE 24/7 may be available to Dish Network Subscribers?

Unfortunately, we have no word on clearances for Dish Network, DirecTV or Time-Warner Cable at this time.  My advice is to visit WWE's website section devoted to 24/7, where they have emails you can send directly to the different carriers asking them to carry the service.

There is a decent list ECW Alumni personalities out there that are currently not on regular pro-wrestling programming and I'm curious who you think will sign with TNA first?  I'd also like to say you guys do an awesome job and it's safe to say you guys are the leaders in pro-wrestling internet media. I mainly come here to read the Q&A's so please keep this feature going! Happy Holidays everyone!

I haven't heard of TNA interest in signing any of the former ECW talents out there, but if I had to wager, I'd go with Sabu or Terry Funk, just because they could play off Rhino, Abyss and the other hardcore talents out there.  If I had to suggest TNA hiring anyone, I'd be pushing Jerry Lynn and Mike Bucci hard for signing.

Who is the one talent signed to WWE developmental that you thought for sure would be a star but was cut?

Teddy Hart comes to mind, especially since when he was signed, every indication was that he had his head on straight and really wanted to make it to the main roster.  The late Steve Bradley comes to mind as he was always just "thisclose" to being called up before being lost in the shuffle after WCW and ECW talents were picked up in 2001.  I also thought Dean Visk was a guy who shouldn't have been cut as he has a fun character.
