PWINSIDER Q & A: TEXT VOTING, HEAT ON JARRETT, MICKIE JAMES' VALUE, MVP AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-12-03 10:00:00

With the upcoming Cyber Sunday PPV imminent, can you answer me this. In the UK we have had recent scandals where TV shows have been fined various amounts of money and had competitions suspended due to either vote rigging or using false contestants. With this Cyber Sunday being a text vote where people are using their hard earned money to decide, wouldn't WWE be in line for a similar punishment if they were discovered to be rigging votes? Or is this not an issue in the US?

I think a few things would get them off of the hook.  They did offer people who voted some free digital media content, so they got some value for the text.  There also weren't any prizes involved.  And, they could have had fine print saying something to the effect that there were other aspects to determining the winners.  If that failed, they could always use the "It's wrestling, what did you expect" excuse.

I don't know if you guys watched WCW back in the late 90's (it may be before your time) but back then Jeff Jarrett worked a Program with Beetlejuice from the Howard Stern Show. Beetlejuice was viciously attacked back stage and Jeff Jarrett hit him over his head with a real (ungimmicked ) guitar. Ungimmicked guitars can cause great Injury. Anyway did Double J take any heat for hitting Beetlejuice with an ungimmicked guitar?

First off, there isn't anything before the late 1970s that is before my time.  To answer your question, no guitars are "gimmicked".  What they are is cheap.  I remember before the shows back in ECW, New Jack would go to a local discount store and buy the cheap, 15 dollar ones that were made out of very lightweight wood.  They break very easily because the wood is so flimsy.  He never gimmicked them.  As long as you hit the guy in the fat spot, you were fine.  The angle in WCW was totally planned and there was no heat on Jarrett for it.

My favorite female wrestler is Mickie James. She seems to get the biggest pop from the crown among all WWE Divas. My question is WWE Management's attitude towards her background in hardcore porn. I'm happy to see they haven't held it against her but it also surprises me since it seems some other divas have been held accountable for mistakes they made prior to joining the WWE.

Hardcore porn?  All that I am aware of her doing is some risqué nude photo shoots.  While they were racier than Playboy pictorials, it's not like she is the first diva to post naked.  And keep in mind that Candice Michele has done faux skin flicks that air on Cinemax, so it's not really an issue.  As for how she is seen by management, they think she has a great feel for the business and they consider her an asset in the Women's division both with her work and her influence on the other divas.

What did MVP do to get in the doghouse?

We get this one a lot and it's kind of like the Randy Savage-Vince McMahon question, no one is talking but we know it's real.  There have been some backstage stories, which we have talked about before, but we haven't heard anything definitive about why he went from a darling of creative to a guy who has been pushed down the card.

It has been reported that some wrestlers have quite an inflated opinion of themselves. On the flip side, who comes to mind as some of the nicest, most down-to-earth people in the business these days?

Actually, that describes a good number of people in the business.  Over the years, I have probably met 9 good, normal people for every tool.  Sure, some have high opinions of themselves and all, but you need that when you are a performer.  Most of them are just good people working hard at something that they love.
