PWINSIDER Q&A: ORTON VS. BATISTA, MELINA, MICKIE JAMES AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-11-27 10:00:00

During the Survivor Series PPV, I noticed that the announcers kept saying that Batista and Orton have never gone one on one, and that they would love to see that match happen. But if I'm not mistaken, didn't they wrestle each other on Raw the night after Wrestlemania 21? Isn't Batista the one who hurt Orton's shoulder, which he had surgery on, and put him out of action for awhile?

They absolutely did have that match, as well as others.  I would just chalk it up to WWE's selective memory when it comes to history, and the fact that they want the eventual Orton-Batista singles match to seem more unique.

After hearing Rhino say the other night on Impact that the older guys wouldn't do the job to the younger guys, I instantly wanted to never watch TNA again. Can't they learn anything from the demise of WCW? It seems TNA is turning into the worst years of WCW. In my opinion wrestling fans know wrestling is fake, but they never want to hear wrestlers acknowledge that in their promos right? Do you guys think this is ridiculous or is it just me?

I agree, TNA "pulling back the curtain" can be a bit much, although I don't believe Rhino actually used the term "job".  Regardless, I think TNA's new approach is just their latest attempt to try and expand their audience, as they have seen pretty much no growth despite expanding to two hours and bringing in Kurt Angle.

Has the WWE put any referees in their Hall of Fame? Is Teddy Long the only referee to evolve from being a referee to an on camera role as a manager or some other on camera role?

There are people in the Hall Of Fame who worked as referees, but not who are best known as being referees.  There have been other referees to evolve from referee to another role, probably the most famous being Danny Davis, a wrestler turned referee who in the 1980's became a wrestler again as part of a big angle involving the Hart Foundation.

Now that WWE Diva Melina has recovered from her injury who do you see her feuding with? Will she be on Raw or Smackdown?

She will be on Raw, and I would imagine she will be the next feud for WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix.

Can you explain why WWE Mickie James has not been doing well in matches recently? She has the talent. Looks. Charm. Personality. Easy on the eyes. Did I not forget to mention that she is an outstanding wrestler as well as a former WWE Women's champion? Why the lack of a push? Don't tell me the creative team doesn't have anything for her to do? What are the current plans for her?

Okay, I won't tell you the creative team doesn't have anything for her to do.  Unfortunately, the only thing they have her doing is being a secondary babyface Diva to whoever is challenging Beth Phoenix.  In a lot of ways, Mickie has become WWE's "go to" Diva, when they don't have any other female babyface they want to push.  In a way, it is a good spot, since she will always be brought back into the top program.  However, it also means she will spend a lot of time playing "bridesmaid" to the flavor of the month.
