PWINSIDER Q & A: TALENT RELEASES, PUSHING CHRISTIAN, JERICHO DVD, THE ROAD WARRIORS AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-11-24 10:00:00

My question is with great talent being released such as Paul London and one of the best on the microphone, Elijah Burke, how is it that Funaki still has a job in the WWE. No way in hell is he a better performer than London and Burke. What are your thoughts?

Funaki is a good company man and always has been.  He shows up, does what is asked of him and doesn't rock the boat.  That's basically it.  The importance of doing that in WWE can't be overstated.  A lot of guys have had long tenures there by doing just that.

Ok, the WWE HAS to release a Chris Jericho DVD in the near future don't they? I mean, he's really the only "Main Event" type guy that worked for the former big three promotions (ECW, WCW, WWE), NOT to have his own DVD set. With the way his character has evolved over the years, are there any plans to put out a Jericho DVD set?

I fully expect that sooner or later we will see a Jericho set.  He has had a great run in the company and there is a ton of outstanding footage that they can use for him so I expect we will see it one of these days.

After hearing Les and Mike talk about how Jim Cornette doesn't fly anywhere I was wondering do wrestlers and managers get paid mileage if they choose to drive to a wrestling event instead of flying to one?

The way it works with WWE is that they fly the wrestlers to the start of the loop and then back home at the end of it.  While they are on the loop, they mostly are responsible for driving themselves from town to town.  So, if they choose to drive to the start of the loop, I am guessing that they would not be compensated for it.

I read Mike Johnson saying he doesn't ever see Christian becoming WWE champion. I think Christian's sole purpose to go to the WWE should be to become world champion, so what do the rest of you think his chances are to be given the ball to run with at the top? And how would you bring him back?

I would absolutely bring him back at the top of the card if I were in charge of WWE creative.  They are in dire need of top talent and he fits the bill.  He's a great promo and a strong worker.  All he had going against him on his last run with the company was his build.  In today's WWE, that isn't a problem any more.  So, I could easily see him getting a run at the top of the card.  If I were him, I would get a gentleman's agreement about my push before I returned there.

When the Road Warriors first worked for The WWF they called themselves The Legion of Doom but when they left than returned on Raw (I forget the date) Vince introduced them as The Legion of Doom The Road Warriors. Why weren't they called The Road Warriors to begin with?

As I remember it, it was a rights issue and Vince wanted to own their name.  By the time they came back and were older, it probably wasn't an issue to him any more.
