PWINSIDER Q&A: JIM CORNETTE, MICK FOLEY, THE ROCK AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-11-14 10:00:00

I was reading a question regarding Jim Cornette and if he's leaving TNA because of Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett's new "authority" on screen role and you basically said he's not leaving TNA but they should look for a new role for him. Well, Mr. Cornette happens to be one of the greatest managers in pro wrestling history. Why not have a story where Jim Cornette flips out on an episode of Impact and quits his current TNA Management job saying bad things about Foley and Jarrett and how he doesn't like the direction they're taking the company and have him turn heel. Then you could have him dust off his tennis racquet and have him manage any heel wrestler that needs help with their promo skills since we all know Cornette can work the mic. He could even manage Matt Morgan and have Morgan also do a heel turn along with him since they have history together. What do you think?

TNA could certainly do far worse than have Jim Cornette go back to managing and having him act as a mouthpiece for wrestlers who could use it.  That said, Morgan certainly doesn't need someone to speak for him.  Regardless, I don't know if Cornette has a desire at this point in his life to go back to working ringside and possibly taking bumps again.  However, if he is interested, it is worth TNA looking into it.

Hey I was just wondering what you think about Mick Foley turning heel and joining the Main Event Mafia? It seems to me that they need an authority figure ala Eric Bischoff with the nWo and Jarrett as a heel has been done to death. Foley as a tyrannical owner could be something fresh and different.

I don't know.  Foley has played a loveable character for so long, I'm not sure he'd even want to play the heel again.  His last heel turn, where he teamed with Edge against Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk, didn't last long at all. I think Foley is best served to stay babyface for the rest of his career.

I was watching the recent 3-Disc Rock DVD set and was wondering why he consistently wore a tracksuit with his feud with Mankind. I remember years ago on Howard Stern he said he had some fat removed from his chest that commonly happens with some bodybuilders & wrestlers but I'm not sure if this is connected or not?

It absolutely is connected.  Rock has surgery on his chest, and wore the track suit for a time to cover the bandages on his chest.

Why is the 2001 Fedex Orange Bowl National championship DVD always on the Billboard's Recreational Top 10 DVD list? Its been on it for years and I have no clue why? Are there some Easter Eggs of Beyonce & Jessica Alba having sex or do Jim Ross & his Sooner friends buy the same DVD week after week for fun?

The reason is that a multitude of college sports DVDs are scanned by Scantron as being that title. So, unless they start putting unique UPC codes on these releases, they will all come in as being that Orange Bowl, resulting in it returning to the charts.

What do you think of the idea for WWE to no longer have the legendary Mae Young take part in any more matches for fear of embarrassing herself and even risking injury at her age on TV?  I think she should be given the role of adviser within the womens division. Someone who can assist in the training of various divas such as Maryse, Maria, Layla and the Bella Twins. She could even offer advice on how to conduct/present themselves in the ring. What do you think?

Mae is happily retired from what I understand, and has no desire to have a full-time role with WWE.  Her occasional appearances are a lot of fun, but I think putting her in the ring again is a bad idea.  I can see having Mae make the occasional appearance, but strictly in a non-wrestling role.
